Okay girls... so I'm not the most fashionable girl in the world. I know this, I accept this. I don't always necessarily look terrible but have been thinking I could use a few key pick me ups to my wardrobe... one being boots (now that it's winter). I hate this kinda stuff but know you guys love it. I'm looking for a pair of boots that I could wear over leggings, but not the really tall kind. I don't think I could wear anything past my mid-calf (I have wider calves and those dont usually fit me). Anyway, I also doin't want to spend more than $30 or 40... any ideas, suggestions? I'm thinking black/grey b/c I usually wear black leggings under black/denim skirts.
Re: Fashion Advice
When we were down in the States my MIL took me shopping for Christmas and I picked these out
I'm in love:

I have to say that I am ridiculously envious of JC Penny. I love them so much!
Happy shopping!
JC Penney is my store!! I love it!
I looove those... I like the crinkliness to it (I'm sure there's some sort of fashion word for it but you know what I mean?). I like the LOOK of the taller ones more but dont know if they'd zip up all the way up my calves... I don't get it. I know women heavier than me wear tall boots, not sure how they do it...
I may just order those shorter ones... $25 aint bad!!
Thanks C!

I've never had boots before and that was pretty high on my Christmas wish list this year. So I'm getting these for christmas

I'm 5'3" and they hit right below my knee. I remember thinking they were the perfect height to be able to wear a dress/skirt and some patterned tights. They also had just enough give that I could fold my boot cut jeans comfortably into them.
I also tried on http://www.dsw.com/shoe/sm+women%27s+lakke+boot?prodId=226027&category=dsw10cat70017 and http://www.dsw.com/shoe/sam+.and.+libby+pristine+boot?prodId=228712&category=dsw10cat70017 and http://www.dsw.com/shoe/kelly+.and.+katie+fannie+riding+boot?prodId=229053&category=dsw10cat70017

I have these and they are wide calf. I wear them mostly with leggings with skirts/dresses. They are super comfy. I know they are a bit more than you want to spend, but you may be able to find them even cheaper.

What are you looking at?
I love me some JCP too. I have asked for these for Christmas: http://www.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?GrpTyp=PRD&ItemID=1ba81fe&DeptID=70731&CatID=81534&SO=0&SelDim=14%7e&PCatID=70731&x5view=1&NOffset=0&Ne=4294957900+3+14+8+1031+18+904+833+949&CatTyp=RLE&Dep=WOMENS+SHOES&N=4294933767+529&Pcat=WOMENS+SHOES&Cat=boots&Nao=0&PSO=0&bcCat=3&CmCatId=77583|81534
I can't wear heels anymore and these are a cute alternative.
In terms of width, I think many brands are different, so just try a few. I have the problem that i have really big feet (size 10), so when I buy boots in that big of size they are always too big for me in the calf.
You could also ask on the Fashion & Beauty board. They get tons of boot posts over there
