I just sent out my christmas cards which of course are pictures of DS. I disowned my IL's over a year ago with the exception of my FIL. Every time I get DS's pictures done I'll send them up to him. So this year I send them with a note on the back saying "my phone numbe is xyz, call if you ever need anything" just as a nice gesture.
I never expected him to call but he did to say thank you. We go on to talk for alittle while, the man is still heart broken over with MIL did to him. Back story: Before XH joined the military 8 years ago, his mother walked out on FIL(see a trend?). She had been cheating on FIL for several years and finally moved out to live with her bf. FIL is also illiterate as he is one of 7 kids and dropped out of 2nd grade to go work. He never learned and has felt that if he's made it this far(60's) then why bother. Since he can't read and never finished school his employer doesn't have to pay anymore than minimum wage. XH and his sister only call once in a blue moon or on a holiday bother other than that they only contact when they need something (money).
So during the conversation today he goes on to say that they still are not divorced. MIL racked up cc debt so they couldn't divorce, at least that was the case 3 years ago. Now out of the blue MIL asks FIL for a divorce but not without $10k from the property value of their marital home which is still sitting for sale over a year later while FIL is living with his brother. Oh it gets better..... MIL wants the $10k to build an addition to her bf's house.
I'm seriously half tempted to pay for an atty as a gift to protect FIL's assets so that he can continue to care for himself.
Re: My XMIL is the Devil!!
NH, they live in a very rural area and very poor. They lived in a trailer which eventually couldn't be kept up anymore. He moved in with his brother and his brothers wife, then demolished the trailer and now the land itself is what is up for sale.
Your poor XFIL--that's a terrible story. What a psycho XMIL.
I'm also surprised he never learned how to read. What does he do for work?
I wonder if he ever heard of this guy --

Sorry I didn't have a chance to jump back on last night or today. He works for a local plant that makes auto parts.
