WTF Glee. 12/13 Spoilers

I started late, so I'm only up to the 'My Favorite Things' song, but wtf were they thinking with this episode? This is some terrible sh!ts.

Re: WTF Glee. 12/13 Spoilers

  • Lame-o.

ETA: Did anyone see the Coach on WWHL with Andy the other night? I didn't know she was a 15 time world champ arm wrestler.

  • It was different, I liked it.

I think they were shooting a special for a local tv station though. Eh, either way, I enjoyed it.

  • I know!  It sucked asssssss.  I was ready to change the channel, but MH wanted to ride it out.  The whole TV special thing was just inane.  Plus, MH could not stop shouting out, on occasion, "Rachel is Jewish!"

  • Only points I liked:

-The irony of Blaine telling Finn he should buy Rachel socks for her gift

    -Chewie

-Artie's face to "You're like a modern day Tiny Tim. Oh, Tiny Tim could walk."

-Rory's bit about tying a bell to his brother so he doesn't get lost

    Bits that annoyed me:

-Rachel and Puck are both Jewish, but the show only managed to throw in one meager Happy Hanukkah.

-The entire black and white PBS bit

-The only way to humanize Sue and let her be anything other than a b!tch is to bring in her sister

-That such a pro-equal rights for the lgbt community used Salvation Army instead of a more tolerant charity

ETA: Because his name is Artie, not Archie.

  • I liked it but I'm a fan of cheesy holiday specials.

I agree with all points except the bolded, I liked the PBS bit b/c i love that shits.  I was also yelling "but you're Jewish!" at the screen at Rachel the entire time.  I also liked mercedes "this is the end times".  the episode was ALMOST saved by "Christmas Wrapping" then they cut it short and I was pissed.  and FVUCKINGS do they know it's christmas is bad enough, without it being at a homeless shelter.

Seriously! WTF Glee?  Way to sing the Africa Relief song to people with no homes.

Am I the only one tired of the feminization of Kurt?  He's gay, not a girl... a whiny, over-the-top, nasal, girl.  They could have gone Bing and David Bowie, but no... they go Fred and Ginger.

Also, way to read the Nativity story to Rachel and Puck.

After the look Rory gave Sam when he asked him to be his Valentine's sponsor, I kind of want Rory and Sam to make out now.

This also annoyed me. It was way over-the-top in the PBS bit and it annoyed me. I usually like Kurt ("This is for the King" Cue Kurt's annoyed face) but it was flamboyant to the point that it made me stabby.

I hate most Christmas specials/movies, so I guess that's part of the reason why I hated the PBS bit so much. As in, my idea of a good Christmas movie line-up includes Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, and Trading Places. Love Actually is about as touchy-feely I get in Christmas movies.

  • I haven't watched the last 4-5 eps of Glee. It is the show I am "over" at the moment.

You missed a couple of good episodes...especially last week.

I am still watching, but I like the cheesy pbs special....I keep cracking up at the cheesiness of it all.

Puck looking confused about everything is pretty funny.  I thought about He and Rachel being Jewish, but the songs they are singing and the rest of the story doesn't bother me as much as Neil Diamond, Barbra Streisand and all of the other well known as Jewish performers selling out and putting out Christmas albums and doing TV specials irl.

Me too. I also agree about the song at the homeless shelter and Kurt basically being turned into a woman. Overall, I was not impressed.

Thank God I'm not the only one who thought this was seriously messed up. It was like, well yes you are homeless, but it could be worse! You could in Africa and REALLY starving!

Also, I still hate Rory. I just don't think he adds anything at all to the show. But maybe I'm alone on that one.

I "broke up" with Glee when they went on hiatus for baseball. I am really glad I did after reading posts like this.

  • Add me to the hated it camp. I knew it would be hard to top last year's awesomeness. I loved that episode, but this year sucked!

Honestly my favorite line was Rachel's, "All i want is what I have coming to me. All I want is my fair share." Lucy anyone? They could have been on to something if they had followed that through like they did w/the Grinch last year. I wouldn have much rather watched a Charlie Brown spin off than the crap they did last night.

Ah, but they did....Rory was Linus, Sue was Charlie Brown and they all came to sing around her tree (so to speak). ;)

I have been thinking about the choice of song at the shelter.  It was obviously meant to drive home the message to the viewers, which it did.   It definitely could have been done differently so that it was about the homeless people and not sung to them, but in a lot of musicals it is like the show, where the audience in the show is just enjoying the entertainment and not reading anything into it.

Crap, you're right! haha And I guess all of them focusing on the holiday special is like everyone focusing on the play in Charlie Brown. Then they all come together in the end around the tree. I was so focused on how much I hated the holiday special that I missed it!

  • I really like how they are using everyone now - I was getting sick of the Rachel show.

Holy crap Brittney got a song!

  • Add me into I loved it camp. It was hilarious.
    Photobucket
  • I skipped / fast-forwarded through all of the songs except for Mercedes in the beginning and Brittney.  The rest were pretty boring, IMO.  And I love Christmas carols, but there are so many great ones out there, don't do songs that have been done and re-done 1000 times.

Loved how Blaine and Kurt were "two swingin' batchelors" for the show!  LOL!

  • I adored the PBS storyline. I thought it was hilarious!
  • I didn't think it was PBS. I thought it was supposed to be a vintage Christmas show..Anyone ever see "White Christmas," with Bing Crosby? It was like that. Or Nick at Night..not "PBS.." I wasn't getting that but whatever.

Also, it was supposed to be over the top vintage. I don't get how people take the show so seriously. That's why Kurt and Blaine were two "swingin bachelors" etc.

I noticed the supposedly Salvation army bell ringing part, but I never explicitly saw a sign that said "Salvation Army." and I looked. It said, "Donate today." It was implied to donate to a charity with bell ringers. The association with Salvation Army is so strong that's what people assume. Go them for their good marketing over the years.

Also, I thought the 'Do they know it's Christmas" song wasn't pointed AT the homeless people but more towards the people who were going about their holidays NOT recognizing that there were people suffering...I don't know, such as the Glee club who had ditched out on helping with the holiday homeless dinner to create the stupid show-and forgetting the true holiday spirit. But maybe that's me.

Overall I thought the show was fine. Glee is an okay show and it fills my tuesday night slot.

They straight out said it was for PBS and that the charity was the Salvation Army.

Mr. Schu- "I just got off the phone with Don Whatever. The local station manager at Lima's PBS affiliate. Turns out that their annual broadcast of the yule log burning has been canceled.... Don came to Sectionals, he loved what we did." Blah, blah, blah.

They mentioned PBS a number of other times.

Sam- "What's wrong with a story that's a little sad or a song that's a little depressing. I mean, that's part of Christmas too, right? It's the sad things that makes you remember what's really important. {Artie talks} I'm sorry Artie, I'm not buying into it. I'm gonna go downtown, see if I can ring one of those Salvation Army bells. C'mon Rory, I'll give you a ride."

I just didn't like most of this episode, and those bits were reasons for it. It's not a big deal. I probably liked some episodes that you didn't. I agree that Glee is just a fun Tuesday night show, but I wish they'd stick to some of the story lines or character bios, like Rachel and Puck being Jewish.

  • This was the only Glee episode that I thought was total crap. It was aweful!! I kept thinking that they were making the holiday tv special so over the top that it would be cancelled in the middle..and it would have some sort of lesson about the meaning of Christmas and helping others instead of being greedy, but it didn't!  the end couldn't come soon enough!! Also, I thought the whole do they know it's Christmas song was just offensive! The homeless kids I work with would have been horrified if someone sang that to them! Horrible episode all around. :(
