I have an interview, and a polle (not clicky)

So the job I got a call for an interview (OP here)...

I finally got a hold of the lady yesterday. H was at the education center last week and stalked down her phone number for me. I tried calling her last week (she never answered, and didnt have voicemail. Who doesnt have vm?)

When we talked yesterday, she said that she remembered my name. She also said that the full time position was filled before she got my email, but there was an on-call therapist job open I could interview for if I was interested. Uh, yeah, thats more than what I am doing now!

Anyway, my interview is tomorrow. I have my suit, but what is your opinion on what I should wear under it. A collared shirt? a nice shell/tank thingy? Something else? I usually wear blue, its a great interview color.

Also, I was thinking pants, but have a coordinating skirt I could wear (although I have recently become aware of the potential hate for panty hose, and I would need it for sure)

  • Pants and always dress for a position higher than you are apply for so wear the collar shirt.

  • I love a shell for a regular work day, but I'd go with a collared shirt for an interview. Also, it's winter, so I think pants are a great choice.

That said, congratulations on getting the interview! Good luck!

  • Three things:

    1) collared shirt

    2) pants, because you won't be comfortable in the skirt wearing hose

    3) explain the blue is a good interview color to me.

  • I think she might be referring to the psychology of colors (it's why I always choose blue).

Pant suit, collared shirt, kick A!

I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.
  • I'm a fan of the collared shirt as long as it looks right. Otherwise a plain shell that looks nice. Pants, if you find them more comfortable than the skirt.

    3) explain the blue is a good interview color to me.

I don't remember when exactly I saw it, but years ago I watched something about presidential wardrobes.  They said red is symbolic of power, and blue is symbolic of intelligence, just like green is symbolic of wealth.  That was when Pres Bush was in office, and sure enough, most of the big speaking engagements feature the president wearing a red or blue tie.

  • If the office/staff is more professional I would go with the collared shirt.  If they are more laid back then I would go with a shell/tank.

I would wear pants because I hate panty hose and I think it would be super unprofessional to show up with bare legs.

Stan and Ojo talked about this, but its a good, calming color. I loved learning about what different colors evoke in school. i.e. red typically comes across as too aggressive

    Here's some exerpts about blue:

Blue is one the best choices to wear to an interview. Blue causes its wearer to seem authoritative. At the same time, wearing the color blue makes a person seem trustworthy. This is a perfect representation to make in front of a potential boss at an interview. Another reason to wear blue to an interview is because blue is most people's favorite color. This increases your chances of the interviewer approving your appearance. Studies have even shown that salespeople and people at interviews who wear blue have higher success rates (from here)

    or

Blue: Signifies tranquility, authority, trust, and loyalty. It's the best-selling color globally, and the one with the biggest success rate in job interviews. Blue is the ultimate "power color". (from here)

  • Thanks Stan/Ojo/Jilly. I'd never heard that before. It's pretty interesting. Guess I know what color I'll be wearing to my next interview. ;)

When I was on Academic Decathlon in HS, we actually had a whole sheet with all the colors on it because we had interview and speech portions where we were meant to wear a suit. I got 7th in the state in interview, and I think it had a lot to do with eye contact and my blue, because besides that I yammered on about George McGovern. So I've always worn a blue shirt to every interview, and my suit is blue, lol.

Pink is one to avoid. I can't remember exactly what my sheet said about it, but something about being weak and a snob. Hahaha.

Waaa. I was never given that sheet. I was only told to wear a dark colored suit. I happened to pick Navy blue because black was too hard core for me. Seriously though. The interview training from Acadec lasts a lifetime. It's nice to be able to charm one's way through any interview when the competition has sweaty palms and awkward silences.

  • I agree with the collared shirt and the pants.

I remember in college during an interview seminar we were told to never wear a skirt to the first interview.  I no longer remember why though....
