Re: Insurance Non-Clicky Poll (deductible amount)

  • Ours is $1500 per person/$3000 family. This year his company put $2000 of that into an account for us so we didn't start paying out of pocket until that was used up. Of course we just hit $3000 last week and it resets Jan 1. Next year his company is only fronting $1500. We are going to utilize the flex spending account next year, but it is going to mean a decent hit to his pay checks. After the deductible is met, we have 90/10 coinsurance.

  • Car or house?

For the house its either is  $1500.

The cars are $500, I think.

for Health insurance we have the Blue Cross HMO, so we don't have a deductible.

  • We are very fortunate and do not have a deductible (gotta love state insurance benefits). The midwife that we really want to use will cost $4500 total and our insurance will only cover $2000 of that cost. I'm trying to convince Jake that $2500 is what most people have to pay for a deductible, so I'm hoping your responses help my cause!

  • After doing billing in the OB office with over 400 pregnant women at any given time, I can tell you that the most common deductible (for family) was right around there. I don't really recall seeing any family plans with a deductible less than $2000.

  • $200 for an individual and $400 for family

  • My max OOP for the year is 2000.  I'm grateful I have an August baby in my future, the bulk of my appointments will be in one calendar year and will all count toward that. (My first appt is the 23rd, so that should be my only for the year barring an issue). I'm sure it will be used.

BTW, totally jealous of no deductible..ours JUST went up!  I guess it just varies state to state what they will offer, but I'm still just grateful to have a job with the state.

ETA: I support the midwife cause.  I've started discussing things with H and, as far as birthing goes, I'm drilling it into his head that I'm the one pushing the baby out of my vag, I make the rules.  Oh, you don't think its fair that my mom's there and yours isn't?  Tough.  Baby, vag, rules.

  • For health insurance, I have $0 deductible.

It's funny.  I was chosing between this "basic" plan and the "preferred" plan both with the same carrier.  The basic has no deductible and $0 copays for things like lab work, but it doesn't pay at all out of network.  The "preferred" has a $300 deductible and pays 80/20 for lab work and things like allergy shots and has a higher premium, but it also covers partially for out of network providers (60/40).

  • I must have missed your BFP, Jenn, congrats!! Ours is only $750 but we pay more monthly for a lower deductible.

Are you wanting to have a homebirth this time around?

This with an out of pocket max of $1,000  for individual and $2,000 for family.

So, basically like for my pregnancy I paid the first $200, then was covered like 90/10 or something up to the OOP max, and then once I'd spent $1,000, I was covered 100%.

  • We have a high-deduct HSA. Our company switched from a $500 deductible to this POS plan about 5 days after I found out I was pregnant with Zac.

$4000 deductible, at that point they start paying 80/20, until we reach our out of pocket max for the year of $8000 and then they pay 100%.

ETA: The last two years the company has given us a $1500 deposit in our HSA account.

  • TO am so thankful for our insurance. We have $0 deductible and no out of pocket insurance. As long as we've jumped through all the hoops everything is 100% covered.

  • 2,400 for individual and 3,300 for family :(  El sucko.  I do get 700 per year to go towards that, but still.
  • We have an HMO, so we don't have a deductible.
  • I think ours is 4000 for our family

ETA: if I was under the school district's plan it is 6000 individual and 11,500 for family.  Thank you voters who think teachers have it made

This doesn't make sense to me b/c I have an HMO with a deductible. Anyway, mine is $350 (single) and I think $750/family with a max co-insurance of 2k.

  • Prepare to be jealous (HUGE sarcasm here)

My plan is $2,500 individual deductible, $7,500 family.  Copays, office visits, specialists all do not count towards the deductible.

For this pregnancy it was 100% covered AFTER I met my deductible.  So I knew up front it would cost me $2500.  I had three trips to L&D during the pregnancy which each cost me $250 out of pocket and not towards that deductible.  So that puts me at $3250 so far for my delivery.

Luckily, Miles is covered under me until the first of the year.  Thank goodness.

My city offers an HMO or PPO.  The PPO for us has a deductible and the HMO has none.  So in my experience the HMO was no deductible and PPO was..  Guess thats not always the case??  But, for pregnancy, my insurance also covers 100% of the costs.

  • $1250/person; $2500/family

Once we meet that, it's 100% coverage. But until that is met, we pay everything out of pocket. This means we don't have "co-pays," just the full amount. We have an HSA account set up through our bank that we pay our medical expenses out of. Then we can deduct that amount on our taxes.
