Dumb question - getting pictures off of camera

Hi everyone,

We took our family pics the other day and they are saved on my memory card.  My computer doesn't have a slot to insert the memory card...

So I hooked it up with the USB cord and the pictures won't show up because they aren't on my camera...they're on the dang card.

Any ideas for what I can do so I can order our Christmas cards?  LOL

It's a Canon Rebel T3i if that matters...

Thanks so much!

Re: Dumb question - getting pictures off of camera

  • that's weird. We can hook our Canon Rebel xsi (i think) with a USB cable and read off the card. Are you using the software that came with it our are you going through "my computer"?

You can also go to an office supply place or computer place and get a usb card reader for pretty cheap.

  • I'm going through My Computer because I'm at work.  We don't have internet at home anymore so since I can't order the cards from there I haven't tried to upload the pics. :-/  I guess I will upload them at home, put them on a flash drive and try again...

    Thanks melrrr

  • If you are talking about the small memory disk that goes inside camera, has you tried replacing the one inside your camera with the one that has the photos on it? if it the correct size and fits in your camera, you SHOULD be able to view all the photos on the camera and on your computer via the camera-to-computer USB cable.

That's all I got! Good luck!

  • You can get a cheap CF card reader at Walmart or Best Buy, etc. I always use that to upload photos to my documents.

  • Thanks, Chris.  The card that is inside the camera does have the pictures on it.  Something is getting lost in translation between the computer and the camera though.

  • I agree with melrrr - usually you have the software downloaded in order to download the pics from the card to the computer (via the camera).

to echo the others... i think this is your missing link.  with some cameras, it works automatically but not so much with others.

if you don't want to install the software on your work computer, take them to wolf/ritz, walgreens, etc. and have a CD made.

  • Lexar makes readers that have several card options all-in-one tool.
