At 5pm today, we found out one of our seniors got accepted Early Decision to Brown University!!! Our whole guidance office waited by the computer to celebrate with her and her family. Just to put this in context: I work in a high school where 85% of our students receive free or reduced lunch, they are mostly the first in their family to go to college. And this girl's mom is our custodian. What an accomplishment for the entire family, it's such a life-changer. It was so nice to celebrate with her mom and see her emotional reaction (since she works here)
And thanks to a great contact I have at Brown (an old friend from when I used to work in admissions) I knew she was getting in on FRIDAY and couldn't say a word until the decisions were released today online. Whew, I'm SO glad this day is over and the news is out. I could barely make eye contact with her or her mom for fear of exploding!!!!!!
I am just SO SO happy - this was a huge thing in our school and we are all very proud! Just wanted to share!!!
