I don't know what to get my grandma.

She sent us $100 for our b-days/anniversary, which is a lot for her so we want to do something special for her. She's a big reader....like several books a week so I thought about getting her a Kindle, but I'm not sure she would like it or could learn to use it. My great-aunt agrees. She's always cold so my next thought was a heated mattress pad because we love our's, but she has an electric blanket and that might be overkill. I don't think she would wear slippers or anything like that. She really enjoys pedicures, but I have no idea where she gets them and I probably can't get a gift card online anyway since she lives in such a rural area. She delivers the newspaper for her itty, bitty town and works part time at the grocery store in the next town over. She's obviously active. Her favorite color is pink. She doesn't wear jewelry. She already has a ton of pictures of us. I got her a B&N's gift card for her b-day so that's out. I'm at a complete loss.

Re: I don't know what to get my grandma.

  • Do you know what kind of books she likes? I might opt to get a couple different books. Does she live nearby? If so, you could give her an activity gift (like a certificate to go to the butterfly pavilion or brunch as a family). Could you get her a subscription to a book of the month club or something?
  • She's in rural West Texas. I just thought about a down comforter too. I'm getting kind of stressed about this. I'm having a hard time with everyone's gifts, but for the most part I have something figured out. I just can't figure out this one.

  • I like to get my grandparents a center piece or other live decoration.  I'm assuming there is a florist in her itty bitty town though.

  • I got my great-aunt a box of sundry items -- nail stuff like orange sticks and emery boards and a buffing block, lotions and nice soaps, calendar (daily one that you peel off), fun holiday kleenex boxes, a puzzle and then a nice Wal-Mart GC (her request).  Maybe think about something like that with some little fun items and then a larger GC.  Or one of those scented rice packs you can heat in the microwave and put around your shoulders.  What about a new robe?
