woohoo! xmas gift to us is booked!

DH and I are taking a (very) mini baby moon right after Christmas and I just got us all booked. It's our Christmas present to ourselves :-)

Warner is going to stay with my mom and DH and I are going to spend a night in Williamsburg. The winery where we had our reception now has it's own hotel (it didn't when we got married), but it's supposed to be really nice so we are going to try it out and then have dinner at the King's Arms Tavern which is where we had our rehearsal dinner. And I'm pretty sure that we'll be making a stop (or two or three) at the Cheese Shop. And DOG street will still have all the pretty xmas decorations up....yay, I can't wait!!!

  • How fun!  DH and I are going to Williamsburg for a weekend in the spring--I'm not sure when exactly.  We've never been there, so I'm really excited.

  • I personally think shared experiences are the best kinds of gifts. Glad you have yours to look forward to. Enjoy!

  • good for you! enjoy!

  • Enjoy!  Have you tried the restaurant that the Cheese Shop opened?  It's really good.  Also yummy is the new-er pie place, Jamestown Pie Company, so good.

My Big Sister in college, her husband's family owns the winery.  I love their reception space, you must've had a lovely wedding there.

  • that sounds like the best present ever!!!
  • That sounds divine - enjoy!!!

what is this new restaurant of which you speak? is it the one right next door? the Fat Canary (or something bird related)? and I'll definitely have to check out the pie place, sounds great, is that in Merchant's Square? whenever we go there these days it's always on the the way to or from visiting family and we just go the same places so it will be nice to have more time to explore a bit.

and yes, although I might be biased, our reception was awesome, we really loved everything about the winery.

  • That sounds wonderful!  Enjoy!

Yes, that is the one.  So yummy.  I'm so glad the Cheese Shop owners branched out.  Even if you don't have an open dinner, wine (or water??) at the bar with apps is really nice there too.

I'm always torn when I am in the Burg about where to eat.  There are way too many options.  From all my nostalgic college favorites, to the amazing new places that have opened up.  Can you really skip a Hot Holly or Uncle Pauls?  Will life end without Pierce's?  Is a visit without bread ends and house really a visit?  Luckily I got over Chanellos.  I have no idea how we ate that all the time...

As to the pie, it's further down Jamestown Rd.  It's where wherever they renamed Ironbound joins Jamestown (that whole 199 thing still confuses me - who moves a road???).  I just yelped it and someone wrote that it's under new management.  The last time I was there was before DD was born, I guess 3 years ago, and it was really yummy.  A friend had them cater pies as part of their wedding dessert buffet and it was the highlight.
