My H is getting out of the Navy this summer after being in for 6 years. I will be going home for a bit while he is on his last trip, and my dad is really good with woodwork (as am I, but I don't have nearly enough tools to do anything cool since H and I have been living in a one bedroom in Hawaii). I'll be home for about 3 weeks, and my dad and I wanted to build something together- I'm thinking about making H a cool American Walnut shadow box to display his medals, trident, a flag, etc.
Does that seem like an appropriate gift to give him when he gets out of the Navy? I want to surprise him, as well as show him how proud I am of his achievements and hard work.
Also, what else would I put in it? Is it appropriate to put a picture of him and his platoon in it (I have a really cool one that I found on his computer)?
