Re: QOTD - Thursday
There has been no "best" holiday party... they've all kinda sucked. lol.
I have already mentioned my former VP falling out of her dress at our holiday party while hitting on my date. Besides that whole fiasco it was a nice party at the Ritz with yummy food, open bar, a band and some serious raffle items. Other highlights have included a trip to the White House when DH worked there :-)
we now just do department holiday lunches but they are nice.
DH and I used to work for the same law firm as record clerks (most boring job ever!), but different offices (we didn't meet there, I ended up getting him the job when he moved to DC). It was a litigation firm with lots of $$$.
The party was at Occidental a few blocks from the White House. There was an open bar, lots of great prizes, filet mignon...it was beautifully decadent especially for a broke grad student. I actually felt a little under dressed since I wasn't prepared for how fancy it was going to be. It was my first real work Holiday party.

DH's work party last year at the White House. Nothing will ever compare.
Not everyone gets invited and we didn't get invited this year

We make the rockin' world go 'round.
This is going to be sad to admit but I've never had an office holiday party. In my prior jobs we've always gotten a small little stocking.
We do have holiday party's for our clients though and those are just passed appitizers at Ruth Chris.
The first year that DH and I were dating (2001) he was working for AOL (the first time) and it was back when they were still doing very well. They threw a crazy holiday party at the Wardman Park Marriott in DC.
It was black tie and they basically took over the entire hotel. Every ballroom, hallway, meeting room, etc was part of the party. Each main room had a different color theme. For example, one of the ballrooms rooms was the "tangerine" room and the walls were covered with orange, shiny fabric, the chandeliers all were orange and in the center of the room were two giant circular bars with clear glass countertops and underneath were orange neon lights. Above each of the bars was a giant metal ring with girls in orange unitards doing some crazy acrobatics the whole time. I've never seen anything like it. And each room was just as over-the-top with the color-themed decorations/performers. The whole thing was open bar and the food was excellent. Definitely not your typical office party!
Stand up for something you believe in.
One year we had our holiday party at the Museum of Natural History. That was pretty awesome. The food and drinks were great, of course, but it was mostly amazing to be able to wander around the museum at night.

The best one was in 2004 at the JW Marriott downtown. They had a "club" room, a room with live jazz, a room for just sitting and talking, etc. Unfortunately, hubby (then BF) couldn't make it.
The best venue was at Air & Space (downtown one) but I actually didn't think the party was as fun. But I did enjoy posing for photos in the photo booth with my Knot friend whose hubby works for the same company.

I've been to regular and swanky parties (air and space museum), and I enjoyed none of them more than the staff parties we had when I taught elementary school.
It was just a big party at one of the older teacher's houses, and we always did a White Elephant exchange, and that was always hilarious because we had a lot of funny things to regift. I was so close with so many of my coworkers that the company could not be beat. Almost makes me miss teaching ... almost.
