Let me preface this by saying that my sister is 13 years older than I am. Despite this fact, I've essentially had to take care of her (give her my clothes when she forgets an appropriate article for the occasion, let her tag along when I traveled abroad for school even though she didn't go to the same school, let her be a maid of honor in my wedding because my mom said so, give her my cooking secrets because, according to my mom, she can't cook) pretty much all my life. My mom will say "but she's your sister, which means "do it or else I'll keep nagging you about it for the rest of my life." I actually had wedding nightmares about her. For example, I had a dream where it was my wedding day & she comes in and tells me she doesn't like her shoes and likes mine better. My mom makes me give her my shoes because she's my sister. I had another dream that she didn't like the bridesmaid dress that I picked out for her & she wanted to wear white & my mom made me let her wear a white dress similar to mine because she's my sister.
So I came up with this great gingerbread cake recipe. I researched a bunch of recipes and came up with my own, spicy version. I made it for the family & it was a big hit. Of course she wanted the recipe. I, knowing how my sister's mind works, agreed to give her a recipe for gingerbread cake (mind you, she knows how to use a computer and could have easily come up with her own, but she wanted mine), but I changed things around and omitted some of the ingredients. Yesterday she told me that she was going to make it after work & if it turned out, she'd be bringing it to our family's Christmas party...uuuuh. I said "so you're basically stealing my recipe?" and her response was "yep, that's right." I'm glad I changed it. I know I sound really bratty, and I wouldn't have minded if she took the recipe and made it for her friends or coworkers, but it infuriates me that she'd try to pass something that I put a lot of time into as her own at our family's Christmas celebration.
This morning, she facebooked me and said that the gingerbread didn't turn out like mine & she didn't know what she did wrong...muahahahaha. Am I the only one who has this sort of sibling rivalry?
Re: I Am So Evil: A Sibling Vent
I don't think it's evil, I would do something similar, sometimes it's the petty things that make us feel better. They say passive-agressiveness gets you nowhere, but it's kinda fun when its justified.
I have a similar relationship with my sister. She's only 2.5 years older than me but even my parents know that I act like the older sister. She's so immature that when I asked her to be my MOH (at my mom's request) she told me she had to think about it because she wasn't sure she could stand up there and pretend to be happy for me when her life is such ***. Seriously. Now she's trying to go into the Navy and has lied about all of these things she's done in her past and keeps telling me that if they interview me that I have to lie for her. I'm never going to remember everything...
Awful! Siblings that play the cute/dumb victim make me really angry.
Thanks for all the support, btw. It makes me feel good to know that I'm not alone in this boat of crazy siblings.
