Telling your employer you're looking for a different Job...
Hi ladies!
I am normally on the military board, but i thought i might have better luck here..
So my question is, how would you go about telling your current employer that you are looking for a different (better) job? I obviously want to tell them before my hopeful employer calls to ask about me..but I am not sure what I should be saying. ?
Re: Telling your employer you're looking for a different Job...
You don't
The only times I would condone telling your employer are 1) if your site is closing/you're getting laid off and it's expected that you'll be job hunting (It happened to me) or 2) it's for an internal position and you are required to tell your boss.
Clarify with the potential employer that they won't contact your current one unless/until you have an offer.

Don't tell your current employer. If they don't fire you then, they could easily make your life miserable at work. Plus, they may start looking for your replacement, and you don't end up quitting....then they may look for reasons to get rid of you as well.
