and so it begins

I have been separated for 2 months and have now made the decision to divorce.  While I feel relieved that 'living in limbo' is over and know I made the right decision, i am very nervous about what's to come.  It looks like it's going to be ugly.  We've already been arguing about belongings.  He wants to take some of my furniture even though he is currently sleeping on his mother's couch and barely works, so will probably be there for some time.  I think visitation will also be an issue we are going to argue over (I am 7 months pregnant).  So i guess i don't really have a question, just wanted the support of people who have been here.  I've been lurking on this board for a while and am encouraged to see that many of you seem to be happy now after the dust settles.

  • Good luck on these next steps.  If he's displaying this behavior now, prepare for the worst (sorry its true).  Keep an open mind and realize what is or isn't important to you (support, furniture, safety) and concede on the rest (401k not worth fighting over for a short marriage in this economy, CDs and DVDs are replaceable).

Good luck and stick around!  Also, if you're not in counseling, it's a good time to start :)

I am currently going through something similar (except no baby). If you need someone to talk to, PM me. It is a tough road ahead. keep your familly and friends close. You may see that you will have some friends who take his side, but they really werent your friends any way. You will also find that there are some you wouldnt have considered a close friend who turn out to be amazing allies.Good luck

  • One day at a time! And get a good lawyer
