Feds: If there is a furlough
I'm on the OPM website and it says if there is a furlough then "paid leave is cancelled." OK, makes sense, they can't spend money to pay us during a furlough, so they can't spend money on paying us to take leave.
However, logistically, if my coworker has been approved for leave on Monday (and the next two weeks) it's not like he has to literally cancel his vacation right? (visiting his very sick dad in the midwest). He's reading "leave is cancelled" as his trip is cancelled - but that's not literally true, right?
He still goes to see his sick dad, it's just not paid leave.
Right?

Re: Feds: If there is a furlough
His leave is still approved, so he can go. He just won't be paid out of annual leave.
Did your agency do an FAQ list when furloughs came up before? I think that would have been addressed.
ETA: Nevermind, I did some searching and saw something about Friday. Whatever, after this happening twice already this year, I'm just rolling my eyes.
Yeah, his main concern was that our agency makes it sound like you still have to come to work on Monday, to sign something or get "formally" notified (or something?) just to then be told to go home. He's leaving on Sunday, so for some reason he was thinking he had to be here physically in the office Monday morning even if there is a furlough.
Unfortunately for him his partner is excepted, so if there is a furlough, his partner would have to report to work and not take time off to go home with him. Poor guy, he needs major support right now.
I had to giggle a little at the thought of our agency doing an FAQ - ah, if ya'll only knew how hard it is to get a straight answer at my agency... this is a public board, so that's all I can say about that.
And yes, it'll all be moot I'm sure. I literally told DD #1 the story of the Little Boy Who Cried Wolf yesterday using this as an example... what? government shut-down? Oh yeah right, like that's going to happen... (hopefully I won't eat my words later!)
Now that you mention that, when there was discussion of a furlough last time, I was told I would have to come in to sign something. I would think if he had leave already scheduled it wouldn't be required until he got back, but it may be worth asking someone higher up.
