First, I just have to say that Isaac is adorable, love it when you post pics! I have a couple questions for you.
Are you flying to OH? I ask because one of my cousins is getting married in June and we are really close and I would love to go but I wasn't sure if flying would be ok for a 7 week old and then I saw your post! Obviously I know I need to clear it w/our pediatrician as well...which brings me to my next question...
Who do you recommend? I am looking at two groups right now that I want to go look at, North Pinellas Children's Medical Center and East Lake Pediatrics. First it was just by seeing their practices as I live in Palm Harbor and then I found out a coworker takes his daughter to ELP and really likes them. I figured w/your background you would know better than I!
TIA!
Re: *Kaley*
aw thank you so much!! yes we will be flying to OH and he will be 7 weeks to the day... i talked with our pediatrician about it and all they said was the standard "it will be flu season, dont let anyone touch him, wash your hands a lot".. the only thing that concerns me is he doesnt get any vaccines until 8 weeks old so he really will be vulnerable... but the pediatrician was ok with us going... they were saying how people travel all the time with newborns (adoptions/family etc) so its at my discretion. we decided to go for it and just be really careful. im actually more worried about him crying the whole trip and getting dirty looks and eye rolls lol- i plan to just nurse him for 2 hrs straight in the worst case scenario ha
anyways i use myrtle ave pediatrics and they have been so great so far, i would definately recommend them.. but i live in belleair bluffs. i think they have an oldsmar office though... but as far as your choices north pinellas is super popular and a lot of moms on the floor where i work choose them and like them. dr alvarez is awesome. the only thing is they are a huge practice with a million md's so you will most likely be seeing a lot of different doctors, not getting to know just one or two you know?
east lake peds is a good choice as well. i love dr jordan and so do a lot of my patients... dr theo is great there too. so you cant really go wrong! probably just a personal choice between the size of the practice.
...butting in...I flew with DS for the first time when he was 6 weeks. He was fine. Sure, your baby could get sick, but they could also get sick from going shopping at Wal-Mart too. My perspective was, take reasonable precautions, but don't try to completely shelter my kids from germs because germs are a natural part of life.
The beautiful thing about babies that age are that they sleep most of the time. Up until my son was 11 months, I was able to get through any travel anxiety by nursing him through it. That sure went out the window the minute he was weened. And even at that, we have handled flying half-way around the world with him and long car rides too and he has adapted.
Good luck with your little one!
COP - Thank you for the flying reassurance!
Kaley - Thank you very much for the Dr info, I like the hours at NP, but the smaller size practice at ELP. My coworker actually went to school w/Dr Jordan and says wonderful things about him, but his daughter freaked out w/him so he can't be her Dr until she gets out of her fear of men stage I guess, lol, poor thing. And hopefully our little ones will do as great on the plane as COPs did!
