College Station peeps-Winter Wonderland

We are going to visit Winter Wonderland and stay overnight. Our hotel is on Texas Ave.

How long should we allow ourselves to arrive at Winter Wonderland? We want to try and get there around 5:30ish.

How far is Dixie Chicken from Texas Avenue?

Any pointers for our visit?

Re: College Station peeps-Winter Wonderland

  • Are you talking about Santa's Wonderland?

You can get through it in 30-40 minutes, or stay longer (like maybe 1.5 to 2 hours).  When we went last year they had a mechanical bull, some shopping, and a campfire that was fun.

here is generally a pretty good line of cars on the feeder road.  I think we waited on the feeder for about 30 minutes.

The Dixie Chicken is not far from Texas Avenue... probably 3-5 minutes depending on the lights.  Are you planning to take kids in there?  It's a bar, and smoky (unless anything has changed).  If you're going with little ones, go in the morning.

  • When we go we usually line up about 30 minutes before it opens that way we aren't waiting for hours.

  • We just went last weekend but over the years I've learned it's less busy to go on "off peak" nights (Friday) than it is to go on Saturday so we do Friday nights when we go. It's still fairly busy but the line isn't normally out to the feeder road yet (around 5:30-6:00) we got there right about six and pulled right in. Buy tickets ahead of time, saves you time and they are cheaper online if you buy them and print them. It's only a few bucks but anything saves out there because it can get costly! Wink The drive through takes about 40 minutes and then you can park and go into the "town" area, it's $10pp. Hope that helps and have a blast.

  • I've heard the wait is worse this year than in past years.  Definitely take snacks and such for the kids.

The Chicken isn't smokey, as there is a no-smoking ordinance in CS now. However, I agree with the others - take them for burgers at lunch or something.  Nighttime it's totally a bar.

  • We just went on Sunday night. Got there at at 4:30 (had to be early for a performance) and there were people lining up already for both the drive through part and the actual little village part.
  • My tips are to get in line immediately for Santa once you get inside. He's an awesome Western Santa and he wears a black Stetson. You can see him whether or not you buy pictures. All the lines can get very very long really quickly. We waited in line for the hayride last year for over an hour and it was brutal for our kiddos. So do Santa and the hayride as quickly as you can (if you have hayride tickets), then enjoy Santa's town last. You can buy s'more fixings and roast marshmallows over the fire. Our girls love doing it, almost as much as they love seeing Santa and the lights!
