Re: S/O Holiday Tips - Poll on if you get tips

  • I'm self employed so there aren't bonuses to be had.  And the only tips I ever get from clients are how to do my job. Hmm
  • In my line of work my clients aren't usually too happy to see me and are usually rather upset when I have to admit them to a psych unit...so needless to say, no tips/presents from my clients, and no tips/bonuses from work b/c I work for a non-profit that is kinda struggling

no identifiable siggy pictures anymore, thanks a lot stupid nest!
  • I usually get a bonus from my employer but it is not paid out around the holidays. (If we get one it gets paid out at end of February or begining of March.)

Crap! Should I have been tipping the people who lock me up all these years?

  • Bonuses are part of our compensation package.....we've been getting them every year, but not always at 100% of target.  This year was good, though.  :)  My boss usually gets her direct reports $50 giftcards.....I do the same for my direct reports.

  • I voted that I get a bonus, but no clue if that is the case this year (usually we would have it by now but who knows).

But it is usually only like $50, nothing spectacular.  But I guess I can't complain, $50 is $50!

  • I usually get a holiday bonus.. the amount has been different every year so who knows what it'll be this year.

My boss & I also exchange gifts but it's more on the friendship level.

Last year I had a patient who brought us in coffee 1 day and another patient gave us a plant. I think I also got a few small gift cards which was totally unexpected but very thoughtful and sweet. We usually receive baked goods as well but I usually end up dropping those off across the street because we are gluten free and there are usually a few homeless folks near the grocery store.

  • I have worked for companies in the past that give a tiny bonus or something like a $5 KS or $10 walmart card but not with my new company. I'm not allowed to accept tips, though I have gotten baked goods etc in the past.
  • I've nannied for five families; three of them gave me a little extra in my last paycheck before Christmas, one of them gave me a few photo gifts of the kids, and the last one I don't know yet because tomorrow is my last day before we leave!

  • Obv. no bonuses for teachers, but I made out like a bandit this year. I have nothing to complain about in the gifts department. However, most of the families at my school are not as well off as in my program, and the other teachers don't get many gifts.
