Re: Your holiday menu...
I'm hosting my family's Christmas Eve open house and I have no clue yet...I guess I should start thinking about it! LOL
I'm only doing apps and drinks...I need app idea's!

We are going to my aunts for Hanukkah - it's this weekend because that's what worked - and I don't bring anything but my kids and presents for children only. I don't care what is served because it doesn't matter to me and it is so nice to not have any stress about making something.
We are hosting a friends Hanukkah lunch party and I plan to order a fruit platter, bagels, tuna, egg salad, lox and whitefish, and cheese slices. I'll make a salad, cut up tomato and onion slices, and am thinking about making blue and white (vanilla cookie color) pinwheel cookies and blue and white caramel popcorn. I'm trying to keep it really simple and order as much as possible so I can just enjoy the party!
I'm not even sure what we are doing... the last couple of years I hosted Christmas Eve but I can't do that this year. Brent wants to try to have his family over even if just for drinks then to go out to dinner... or maybe I'll do heavy apps. It's going to be hard cause my mom is going to be down with my dad being in the rehab and I don't want them to feel bad cause we are going to have a real celebration when he is out. Same with NYE we usually have friends over for drinks and lots of apps...
some things I've done in the passed:
Pioneer Woman's stuffed mushrooms
Taco Dip
cocktail meatballs in the slow cookerTurkey and Cheese sliders with pesto mayo
Buffalo dip
Kendra316's onion dip which is the bommmb -
2 vidalia onion (or any sweet onions) roughly chopped,
2 cups of shredded swiss (usually one brick),
2 cups of mayo.
Mix it up, throw it in a casserole dish or 8x8 pan (or 2 shallow pie tins if you are traveling with it) and bake on 350 for about 30 mins or until bubbling and edges are golden looking.
Last Christmas eve I did pecan crusted salmon, roasted carrots, rice pilaf, and salad. I think year before that I did lasagna rolls, salad, and garlic bread.
LATKES! i totally forgot - i will be frying up latkes. not sure if we're doing traditional white, or if i will make half with sweet potatoes too.
with applesauce and sour cream on the side
I am hosting Christmas day. It will be us, inlaws and one of my brothers.
Im cooking Ham for sure. Then will either be lasagna or baked ziti. Probablly broccoli with cheese sauce. If anyone has a recipe they can share that would be awesome.
I thought about making a sweet potato casserole. But then also saw a recipe for scalloped potatoes so I may try that.
I'll ask mil to bring dessert
The italian in me will also may an antipasto tray, maybe ill try that onion dip and maybe shrimpcocktail as apps
We are hosting Christmas:
Spinach pastry puffs and roasted onion warm dip for appetizers (might ask my dad to bring an antipasto)
tortellini soup
filet mignon
honey glazed carrots
peas
butter corn
roasted potatoes
homemade bread
Dessert: apple pie, cheesecake (mom is bringing), and cookies
