Cleaning/Disinfecting baby's toys
She's not using any of them yet but I do want to clean off store dust from them before she does and know how to keep them clean. I know I don't need to be as meticulous as they are in daycares since she's the only one playing with them but still need to clean them periodically. The hard toys are easy but there are several soft things and are labeled as not washable. So I can wipe them with a damp cloth but how do I disinfect them?
I've been googling and read about freezing them for 48 hrs to kill bacteria & viruses but I just don't believe that will work. I'll have to ask my microbiology gurus, LOL.
Anyoen here have other advice?
Re: Cleaning/Disinfecting baby's toys
That won't work. I'm a microbiologist, and we freeze bacteria and viruses all the time, to preserve them.
I think you should just spray them with rubbing alcohol.
Thanks! That's what I was thinking. I remember that samples are often frozen so I couldn't imagine this would be killing the germs. I hadn't thought of rubbing alcohol.
I just toss most things in soapy water or the dishwasher. We're still here.
As for stuff that says nonwashable, I vaccuum it off if it's on the LR floor on vaccuum day. I've also found some nonwashable stuff comes out of the wash machine just fine provided it doesn't have batteries or electronic parts obviously.
I'm not much of a germaphobe at all. Five months in I can count on one hand the number of times I've washer her toys. The only ones I really do are the two she loves and sucks on constantly.
