Toddler nap advice

Not real sure that anyone can help, but DS has started refusing naps at daycare.  I'm not sure what exactly their routine is, but isn't nap refusal sometimes a symptom of being overtired?  Maybe messing with the bedtime routine/time would help?  He's been up early a few times also because DD pretty routinely cries to eat at about 5

Re: Toddler nap advice

  • Maybe he's done napping?  Both my girls dropped their nap by first having a really hard time going down for a nap and then nt falling asleep till 10 pm or later on days that they napped.  And it wasn't long after 2 that they started doing it...

really?  so young? he still goes to bed at 7:30 on days he naps and he's a complete mess in the evenings when he doesn't

  • It's all about establishing a routine. My dd still takes a nap at the sitters' every day she's there. It's hit or miss on the weekend but usually she'll go to bed earlier or be more unruly from being overtired if she doesn't nap. She'll be 5 in March. I would keep asking daycare to be consistent with the routine ie play, lunch, nap or something along those lines and it'll be easier.

the routine is definitely consistent.  I just don't know what it is.  they all nap together after lunch.  I don't know how they put them down except that they play music.  Maybe if I found out what exactly they do and try to do the same here?

I'm also pretty sure that being woken early by the baby isn't helping matters.  I feel like we might be slipping into the chronically over-tired spiral

  • It could be because he's getting woken up early, but it could also just be a phase.  DD went though a nap strike at about that same age.  I stuck with our normal routine and she went back to napping again.  She goes through a nap strike every so often, but she always goes back to napping.

Lucy started the process of dropping the nap around 2, but we desperately held onto it till she was 3.  Lexi started dropping a few months ago, but we desperately tried to hold onto it till last month...  It started with problems falling asleep for naps and then a month or two later it started problems at bedtime.  I hate nap dropping and am super bummed my kids dropped so young.
