Apparently I have to change my life long tradition.

Growing up in our house, Santa never wrapped presents.   N  just asked me "Why did Santa forget to wrap my presents last year?!"   Not a clue what to say and not a clue where he got this information so I just shrugged because in my universe, Santa doesn't wrap presents.  Then he defiantly crossed his arms and declared. "Well he better not forget it again," and stomped out of the room.

Re: Apparently I have to change my life long tradition.

  • everything in my house was wrapped. :)

  • LOL!  Funny because I came from a family where Santa gifts also were not wrapped.  They were ALL wrapped in DH's family.  Maybe wrap some and not wrap others.

ETA:  we also cheat a bit and leave the bigger ones unwrapped on put into the giant "santa" bag we have that we got from costco a year or so ago.

  • See, I also grew up with wrapped Santa gifts. My dh must come from your tribe. We didn't have any presents under the tree until Christmas morning. We compromise and have the "big" or quintesential Santa gift unwrapped but everything else is. So, my dh will showcase the unwrapped Hello Kitty scooter and I'll wrap the tablet.

  • usually Santa brings big gifts like a bike, skis, Star Wars millenium falcon - never wrapped....   (as way to hard to wrap)

This was always our tradition when I was growing up.

I'd be tempted to tell N that it's not wise to try to boss Santa Claus around, especially this close to Christmas.

  • Santa never wrapped ours either. We haven't wrapped V's Santa gifts.
  • I would tell him that Santa has a shitton of presents to distribute and doesnt have time for wrapping :)
  • In our house everything was from Sant and it was all wrapped. DH doesn't believe in wrapping but I do it anyway. All is from Santa and all is wrapped. And if I get questioned or they recognize wrapping paper or something, I will just say Santa dropped them off unwrapped and I went and wrapped them.

  • We never got the big gifts that I have given my kids or that most of the gals here seem to give.  Our Santa items (large color books (2x3ft) and things like that) were put by the stockings which were presumably filled by him and were not wrapped.

  • We've been talking about how Santa will work in our house with DD. I grew up with Santa gifts wrapped, except for maybe one bigger one that he would leave somewhere else in the house. I think in our house Santa will do stockings and maybe 1 or 2 things and everything else will be from mom and dad.

  • This should be part of pre-marital counseling, if you ask me, because I can't imagine being married to a non-wrapper.

    Santa gifts must be wrapped!

What if Niko gets up before you do and you miss the big reveal? How do you capture the joy of opening the millenium falcon on video?

  • Santa gifts were wrapped in my house growing up and we've carried on the tradition.  The Santa presents are wrapped in Santa Claus paper and the presents from mom and dad are wrapped in other non-santa paper.  Santa usually brings 2 bigger/most wanted presents and then fills the stockings with a few smaller presents, some candy and an orange :)

  • This household is also in the Santa wraps gifts camp.  Luckily Santa wrapped for both DH and I as kids so it wasn't an issue for us.  But, Santa wrapped the stuff in DH's stocking as a kid and he didn't in mine.  Santa does not wrap the stuff in DD's stocking and it hasn't been an issue with us, DH usually defers to me on stuff like that anyway.  Big gifts do not get wrapped, but they are not always neccesarily from Santa.  Last year the 2 big gifts (an easel and a table and chairs set) were from each set of grandparents.

We have also started our own traditions, like using Santa paper for Santa's gifts and limiting gifts to 3 at the most (up to 3 from Santa and up to 3 from us).

  • Santa gifts HAVE to be wrapped or the kids will have them all opened up & played with before 5am.  Santa has special paper & fancy ribbon though.

  • Maybe N will have to learn that Santa doesn't always wrap gifts.  Smile

  • Nothing was wrapped while we were growing up.  I might change my mind when we have kids, but I like wrapping everything now.

  • I wrap everything and I give them a small gift from Santa. He is not getting my glory gosh darnit. I am getting the credit for giving the most wanted/biggest toy. They will probably get a coloring book and crayons or something of the like from Santa.

All our presents were always wrapped.  My mom explained the wrapping paper away as Santa just used ours to wrap th presents hen he got there.  Santa presents were messily wrapped, no gift tags, no bows, just a name written on he back of a scrap of wrapping paper.  Unwrapping presents is one of the bet things about Christmas!

  • Oh and th biggest/most wanted toy comes from us and Santa brings everything else (4-5 smaller gifts).

  • Unless it's huge like last years art easel it gets wrapped. If something is a wrappable shape it gets wrapped before going in the stocking.

  • This conversation came up at our house last night.

As a kid, Santa always brought a "big gift" and it was never wrapped. He also put a few other smaller things under the tree that were wrapped and then stuffed our stockings & left "family gifts" like movies and games under the stockings. The family gifts were always wrapped in really thick cellophane that was hard to open and the under the tree gifts were usually a solid color or stripe pattern wrapping paper. The wrapping paper with characters on it were gifts from the family.

My parents ran Christmas morning pretty tight. Once you woke up we all sat on the top of the stairs and they would call us down 1 by 1 to check out our big Santa gifts and then we would sit down on the couches and my dad would distribute the rest of the gifts under the tree. Then we could go in the living room and open our stockings and family gifts.

DH's family wrapped everything. The Santa gifts were always in paper with Santa on them and they opened their stockings first so they could eat the treats and play with the little trinkets during the rest of the gift opening. I'm hoping that we carry on something more similar to my parent's traditions but we'll see.

ITA that this should be part of per-marital counseling Wink

  • The best part of unwrapped Santa gifts in our house was it was the way my parents woke up.

"Mooommmmmmmm!!!! Daaaaaaaaad!!!!! Oh my GOSH!! Come see what Santa gave us!!"

That gave the parents about 15-20 min window to wake up and get coffee while we were entertained with the Santa gifts.

It was also a rule in our house that Mom's coffee was made and ready for her at her chair before we played with anything ;)

This is funny.  We used to have to wait at the top of the stairs so Dad could go down and make sure Santa had come/Santa wasn't still there (I forget the exact reason) but really he was making coffee.  lol
