Anyone do a loan mod during or after divorce?

STBX and I are still living together for financial reasons (and it is going to be the death of me)  We have 2 mort's and STBX spoke to the mort co's yesterday and told him that they will not work with us to do a hardship loan modification until we are divorced. I was told by my lawyer that the divorce will be final w/in 60-90 days.  Then, the loan mod itself could take another 2-3 months and I cannot even fathom having to live with STBX for up to another 6 months!  I want to scream and cry right now.  So, my question is... for anyone who did anything similar to this, did the mort company work with you after your divorce was final or did they work with you after it was filed.  Stbx might have gotten the msg wrong.. and I have a call into the mort co, but they take forever to call me back.  Thanks.

  • I haven't been in this situation, so Im sorry if I have no words of wisdom there. Is there any friend or local relative who can help by housing one of you for a month so you can at least have some time away from each other? It was incredibly difficult and awkward for XH and I when we tried that (and it lasted a whopping 2 weeks).

    Good luck.

  • We did that. The divorce has to be FINAL. And then you have to send the execusted decree to them for the proof. Sorry :( I know its a sucky process!

  • Ugh I wish!!  My good friend did offer her basement to me if I needed it (its a nice finished basement), but I really don't want to put any undue stress on her marriage.  Even tho they are like family to me, just knowing how close & goofy me & my friend are when we're together, her husband would probably tire of us quickly.. lol and I certainly don't want to cause waves in her house.

OMG... this is NOT what I wanted to hear. Angry  Thanks for the info tho.

  • UGH. I am so sorry. My STBX is coming in 2 days to spend the next week with our kids. We've come to an agreement on him staying here (for the sake of the kids and to keep from running up any more unnecessary costs for him staying in a hotel), but the thought of him being here is driving me crazy. I would probably lose my mind if I had to live with him for another 6 months. All the things I "got over" during our marriage, like his disrespect and making decisions for all 4 of us without discussing it with me, are suddenly under a microscope and I've grown to dislike Every.Single.Thing. about him. You must have the patience of a saint.
