Are 4 day cruises worth it?
DH and I are going to do a trip next year. I'd like to do a cruise or something all inclusive for around $2,000.
I found a Carnival cruise to Bahamas that is 4 day and with flight it comes in at around $1500. But we would only be in the Bahamas about 1 1/2. The rest of the time is on the ship. Is that worth it? I've only done 1 cruise and it was a long time ago and we did a 5 day. I thought about doing a Sandals resort in the Bahamas but we can't do it for as cheap.
Re: Are 4 day cruises worth it?
We did a 4 day cruise to the Bahamas for our honeymoon because I just switched jobs and I couldn't get more time off, especially since it was busy season.
I think it depends on what you're looking for, but we found ours a lot of fun. One day when we were docked, we stayed mostly on the boat because it was so nice and quiet. If you're looking for a lot of island time, I would fly directly there, but if you're just looking for a fun and relaxing vacation, you might like it.
If you want to make your vacation longer, why don't you arrive in your departure city a day or two earlier? You could take the extra $500 in your budget to cover the extra expenses and explore that area.
I guess it depends what you're looking for - warm weather, food, drinks, and pool really all you need? Then go for it. For me, I would rather spend a bit more and explore a place more.
We went to Colombia for 6 days last year for like $2000 all in (flights were $375) and Colombia is cheap! Even when we did went to Jamaica a few years ago for 4 days we only spent about $600 while there. If you can find cheap flights (which can be tricky depending on where you are coming from) you can do the Caribbean/Central America really cheaply if you don't need luxury or a big resort.
I think they are definitely worth it. My H and I did a 3 night cruise on Disney's newest ship the Dream this past September and had a fantastic time. One of the days was in Nassau, the other on their private island. IMO, if a ship is newer/has a lot to offer, I don't mind some of the itinerary being at sea at all.
We got a fantastic deal on the ship rate and with our plane tickets, the total came out to less than $2k (we were coming from Pittsburgh) which for a Disney cruise is quite phenomenal. (Our stateroom was with a verandah).
The day we were in Nassau we actually stayed on ship since we had both been there before (and I'm not too impressed with Nassau to begin with) and there was so much to do on board.

Does that $1500 include transportation to the port & drinks, excursions etc.? If not that price will mushroom.
I did a 4 days cruise for my 1st one & would not do one again if I had to fly to get to the port. That just adds too much to the cost. It does feel rushed b/c you are just starting to wind down.
