Does anybody else NOT bake for the holidays?
Maybe I'm too practical for my own good? This has just never been a tradition in my family and its never occured to me to do any baking for the holidays, but sometimes I feel like the only women over 15 who doesn't feel compelled to bake around the holidays.
I did buy sugar cookies to decorate w/ DD last year for Santa, but that's it!
Re: Does anybody else NOT bake for the holidays?
I don't typically bake for the holidays. And with my previous post - I don't have anyone in mind to give said cookies to. They will probably just sit on my counter. I just have an urge to bake/cook since I'll have the house to myself and almost all of the christmas shopping is done.
I'll get in moods (especially in the winter) where I want to cook/bake on the weekends. Last weekend I made soup, this weekend...cookies. Or maybe I'll finally break out the breadmaker. We'll see.
I despise baking actually especially if it's making something from scratch. I'm more of a meat and potatoes girl anyway and since I don't love sweets, I've never felt compelled to bake either.
Recently I did find a few receips for the holidays that I've made that don't require the oven. I did truffles last weekend and fudge the weekend before. Both were super easy and I think they're going to be my go-to recipes from now on.
I will probably bake some chocolate chip cookies. I bake bread on a pretty regular basis (I try for every week, but it's more like every other week) but I can't really gear up to bake multiple types of cookies- especially when it seems like chocolate chips are the hot seller in our house.
I am hosting our parents' group cookie exchange for the 2nd year in a row, because as the host I don't have to bake, but I get a share of the cookies. Granted last year at least 60% of the cookies totally sucked and I ended up throwing them away- I have hopes that this year it better and I have told my friends in the group no messing around with new recipes and to run a test batch!
I have baked in previous years, but I am just not feeling it this year.
Also, I, too have noticed that cookies and baked goods that have been brought to various holiday parties that I have gone to have been underwhelming. I am thinking of starting to make cookies/desserts again, just so there is something good to eat. (To be fair, I am kind of a food snob. I think desserts with cool whip and pudding are just gross - I HATE cool whip.)
