dishwasher PSA

for the third consecutive GTG, our dishwasher broke. Repairman today told DH to avoid the little plastic pods and just stick to a powder or liquid. sometimes the plastic from those pods does not melt all the way and will clog the drains (hence the river in our kitchen the morning of the party). He said he sees this all the time!

so thankfully and easy fix, we are just going to tear open the rest of the ones we have and switch to something else.

Re: dishwasher PSA

  • interesting & good to know!  i've been thinking about switching to those.

FWIW, putting vinegar in the jet dry compartment has made a dramatic difference for our dishwasher.  No more film!

  • Good to know-- thanks!  We love the pods Sad  And I just bought more. Super Angry
  • Argh, I use those all the time, but I did notice last week that there was some of the outside coating still left in the dishwasher!

I love how the glasses look now that I use vinegar!

  • I still say your dishwasher knows when the cookie party is, and it's acting out of jealousy because it's only allowed to handle the plates of cookies after they're empty.

Good to know! I hate the film but don't like the idea of the chemicals in Jet-Dry.

personally, i'm too cheap for jet dry.  but really the vinegar is awesome.  it think it not only helps with the film but i think it helps get gunk off the dishes too.

  • Ours started leaking and I had someone come out and look at it.  He told us it was the tablets we were using b/c our dishwasher was too old to process them, so just to stick with the regular powder or liquid.  I had no idea this would happen, but once we went back to the regular stuff, it's been fine.
  • Our DW has been making some weird noises lately.  We fill detergent in the door.  Last night when I went to fill up the detergent, I noticed a film stuck in there.  I'm pretty sure MIL put some in the DW when she came to visit.  (She left a bagfull under the sink.)  I don't know how many she put in though.  I'm hoping once it clears the noise will stop.  Thanks for posting this!

  • hmmm. we just bought a new bosch this summer and they specifically say to use Finish tabs (but the ones we use aren't plastic coated, just hardened detergent).

i hope it's not so my dishwasher breaks sooner and am forced to buy another! Wink
