Do you exchange gifts you aren't crazy about?
I used to feel too bad about it. One year, my mom got me a very nice but terribly unflattering skirt and a very nice but even more unflattering yellow turtleneck sweater. They sat in my closet for a couple years, then I donated them with the tags on.
Ever since then, I haven't felt quite as bad about returning things because that was such a huge waste of money. I still feel somewhat bad, but will return things. I returned something today and am thrilled to have a gift card instead of an item that will take up a lot of space that I won't use.
Do you or don't you?
Re: Do you exchange gifts you aren't crazy about?
I do. I know when I give gifts, I would rather someone have something they like, so I figure other people feel the same way. I wouldn't if it was something sentimental or I know it would hurt the giver's feelings, but otherwise I don't worry about it.
Katie Talks About...
I do.
I try to remember gift recipets for gifts I give because I would never expect someone to keep something they didn't like. I would want them to return or exchange it for something they do like. So I figure the same applies to me.
I used to feel guilty exchanging stuff that people sent for DD, but I got over it this summer. She had a ton of shirts, probably more than 2 weeks worth. Then someone sent her like 6 more shirts. She already had so many she wasn't going to wear them all, so she certainly didn't need more. So I returned the new ones (they sent a gift reciept) and got store credit (which I held on to so I could use it on winter stuff for her).
This exactly!
This. I would rather someone get use out of it.
A quilt grandma made? I'll keep in the closet forever - it even if it's NMS.
A shirt from Kohls that just doesn't fit right? I'll take it back as soon as possible, and get store credit if I don't find something I like right away.

This exactly. I'd much rather someone have something they can use and like!
