DH is looking at another job with his company that would mean a significant raise but most likely require him to work weekends and possibly evenings. He wouldn't know the hours until he got a job offer and would feel obligated to take it if offered. I work long hours starting early during the week so I think we would rarely see each other. On the other hand he might get lucky and get a weekday shift, we just wouldn't know until too late to turn it down. This job could also help him move up to the next level which he really wants.
What would you ladies do? We are going to HH tonight to talk about it. I just don't know what to do! I don't want to be selfish but my husband is my best friend and I would miss him terribly!

Re: Another WWSND - DH job related
I will always vote happiness over money. You mention that it "could" help him move to the next level, but is that the main reason? Will he not move up if he doesn't do this? IMO this is the best time to enjoy each other, our youth and freedom from responsibilities (no kids etc). Money helps, but if you aren't happy, it's not worth it.
We've made this decision, so I know from personal experience. We could save tens of thousands of dollars if H promised to go be a Dr in rural AK (the state would help pay some of his med school debt). However, neither of us would be happy (I would literally have nothing to do) and we decided it's not worth that. So I guess you have to weigh the options, understand all the possibilities/consequences and try to make the best decision for the two of you

This is not really a promotion, just a move to a different department that is busier.
To me happiness is more important than money as well. I am only even consibdering it because I know he wants to move up and it is easier from this department. He would also do so well in this job!
I am so torn. We need to find out of it is long term or just 6 months or so. I could do 6 months.

ditto this - if you think it's only 6 months, then that's definitely not so bad. If it was indefinite, I would have a much harder time doing it

Honestly, if i were in your situation.. I'd tell H to go for the position. You should tell him that since he doesnt' know the terms of the promotion, he shouldn't feel obligated to take it if the hours end up sucking..
He could be lucky and get the weekday job and everything could be fabulous.
I say it's worth a shot.
I agree that opposite schedules aren't worth it.. hence why we opted for H not having a second job..

I wish he felt this way but he is too loyal and thinks it would be wrong. I will talk to him tonight and see if he thinks the hours would be temporary. I said 6 months because that is the soonest he could apply for another position.
I would definitely require a date n ight if he did this
