What to wear at all inclusive Mexican resort? (Secrets Maroma Beach)

DH and I are going to Secrets Maroma Beach next month....in Riviera Cancun (that is what the website says anyway) What is appropriate wear? I am going to need to do some shopping! For dressy stuff I do have a couple of dresses but then my shirts are more what I consider "club-wear" with lots of sequins and glitter....is that going to be over the top?

  • You see EVERYTHING there.

  • I wouldn't get too dressed up. Everything is casual down there.
  • casual for most

    sundresses

    shorts and knit tops

i am sooooooo jealous....secrets maroma beach is one of the most amazing places in the world!!!

  • Bring a lot less clothes than you think you will need.  I always end up wearing bathing suits and cover ups most of the time I'm there.  You will need to check on restaurant dress codes.  I have friends who just came back from a Riviera Maya five star all inclusive and they had to go out and buy pants to comply with the restaurant dress code.

  • We stayed at SMB last March. Everything the previous posters have said are correct. Bring some fun outfits for dinner and you'll be fine. I used the resort as an excuse to get dressed up, but you don't have to go all out if you don't want to. Just be sure your DH has pants to wear to dinner - that's really the only major requirement.

  • it's pretty casual down there. bring a skirt or a dress (like casual little black one) and a few different tops/cardigans and you'll be fine. just mix and match. also a pair of capris and maybe long but lightweight pants in case it's chillier.
Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:
Alison's book recommendations, favorite quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)
  • Love SMB!  Like pp's said, it's what you make of it for clothing.  We were there 7 nights and H brought 2 pairs of khaki type pants for dinner dining and was fine.

There were quite a number of women who seemed to go all out to get ready for dinner.  A lot of people in heels.  I mainly wore dresses and either flat or wedge sandals (but not flip flops) for dinners.  The nightlife isn't all the exciting, although there is a club and shows.  I think that sequiny tops, etc are too much, but that's just my style and I wouldn't be surprised if several women there wore them.

During the day I pretty much wore a bathing suit and/or coverup at all times. Have fun!
