I preface this by saying that I have no clue what I am talking about because I know nothing about MAC flights. So, sorry if I sound clueless!
H is Navy and will be taking the first leave period after deployment, so he will be taking leave in a port other than his homeport. He might have an option of a MAC flight home. I am not finding a lot of info online, but am thinking it might be easier and quicker to just pay for airfare home. The problem with that is that refundable tickets are pretty pricey and he won't be flying on orders because his leave will have started, so getting change fees waived could be an issue, should dates change at the last minute. Can anyone tell me how the MAC flights usually work? Which would you choose?
Re: MAC flights?
If that is the same as Space A then you aren't guaranteed a seat on those flights either.
If it were us I would research the different airlines and see what they charge to change or cancel a flight. Some are more expensive than others, and I would just pick the cheapest option. I'm pretty sure Southwest has low or no change fees, but I can't remember for sure. I personally would just rather book a flight that I know he could get on or could easily get on whenever his date got changed too than wait for Space A.
