Favorite Christmas Movies

I tried to look back through a few pages but I didn't see anything, hopefully this isn't a repeat question!

For cartoons, How the Grinch Stole Christmas will probably always be my favorite. I can almost recite it by heart. I also enjoy the Jim Carrey version.

A Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation would probably be my non-cartoon top picks.

What are you favorite Christmas movies?

ETA: Oops, there is a holiday specials post just a few down...not exactly the same question, but pretty similar. Sorry!

Re: Favorite Christmas Movies

  • I grew up watching A Christmas Story. I grew up with older brothers and no sisters. So that was the only Christmas movie they liked, so the only one I really got to see :o)

Once I was older I liked to watch Little Women.  I love sitcoms, so I like re watching Christmas episodes.

Big Bang Theory- First season Christmas episode where Sheldon hugs Penny.

Office -Christmas episode from first season

Frasier  -Christmas episode when they had to open their presents in loby where their dad was a security guard

The Middle - Any Christmas episode

Modern Family - Any Christmas episode

  • Love Actually, Emmit Otter's Jug Band Christmas, Polar Express, Elf...a few off the top of my head.
  • Love Actually, Elf, The Holiday, The Polar Express, The Santa Clause, A Christmas Story.

  • I like most Christmas movies. But, my top 2 are:

    Christmas Vacation

    Home Alone

  • A Christmas Story is my top favorite.  I would watch the whole 24 hour marathon on TBS if my family would let me.

My others are Christmas Vacation and White Christmas.

  • There are so many Christmas movies that I love.  I'll try to name them all:

The Bishop's Wife with Cary Grant, A Christmas Story, The Holiday, Christmas Vacation, Meet Me in St. Louis (not specifically Christmas, but the Christmas part of it is wonderful), The San Francisco Ballet's Nutcracker as well as the classic Baryshnikov one from the 70's.  I've not seen the Polar Express all of the way through yet, but I do love what I have seen.

ETA: Movie confession: I have never seen It's A Wonderful Life.  Nope. Never.

  • How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Cartoon), Elf & (this is really nerdy) I watch the Buffy episode 'Amends' every year on Christmas.

I caught this on PBS Christmas night last year, and I think it's going to be my new tradition.  I love it.

Another movie that has a great Christmas scene but isn't necessarily about Christmas is the old Heidi with Shirley Temple.  I love it.

    i like that movie!

  • I'm a hardcore fan of the old school Christmas "cartoons"  My favorite is Year Without a Santa Clause (love the Miser Brothers!) and Twas the Night Before Christmas (with the mice.  I sing "even a miracle needs a hand" all year round).

Of the non-cartoons I love Scrooged and Christmas in Connecticut.

I think it was last year, or the year before we saw a fabulous Christmas movie and for the life of me I have no idea what it was called and I can't find it anywhere.  It was older, in black and white.  It was about a bunch of guys who came home from the war and were squatting in this house in New York.  The owner's daughter ran away from home to this house and pretended to be homeless like the vets and lived with them.  When her dad (the owner) came to retrieve her, he ended up pretending he was homeless with them, so they were all squatting in the house together.  Does this ring any bells for anyone?

  •  I love almost every Christmas movie/special, so this is hard!

I think Charlie Brown is my fave cartoon special.  That and Garfield, but they don't play that on tv anymore, I have it on DVD though.

As for an actual movie, it's a 3 way tie between A Christmas Story, Elf and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

  • A Christmas Story, Home Alone, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Carol, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon
  • imageBadSneakers:

ETA: Movie confession: I have never seen It's A Wonderful Life.  Nope. Never.

I haven't either!  I've seen snippets of it, but not the whole thing.

Am I the only person who doesn't really care for Love Actually?  So many people seem to love it, but I thought it was just okay.  The little kid was the cutest part of it, I thought.

    I can't stand that movie.

My faves are: Scrooged!! Christmas Vacation, Miracle on 34th St
