Lap Pass on airplane question (RE infants)

So, I am going to my brother's wedding in March and will be bringing baby with me. We plan to get a lap pass for her. Can anyone tell me if I can get a ticket now that she hasn't been born yet or do I need to wait? Do they need her name and info when you reserve a ticket? We were trying to keep her name a secret till she is born but my dad wants to get tickets now. Not sure if I can keep it a secret anymore.

Also, is there any other info I should know? thanks

You shouldn't have to do anything. Just buy tickets for everyone who needs a seat and tell them at the counter that you have a lap baby.

It might depend on the airline. If when booking, it gives the option to say you have a lap baby, then obviously check the option but a lot don't and will just print you a new boarding pass when you check in at the counter. Depending on the airline, you might need a copy of the birth certificate too. Even when Anna was 2 months old, Southwest insisted on a birth certificate to prove she was under 2.

You don't have to do it when booking the tickets, but you do need to do it before flying. After she's born call the airline and add her to you ticket.p as a lap baby.

This exactly. And also bring a copy of the birth certificate!

Definitely add the baby to the ticket before you just get to the counter though. Calling is the way to go.

You can just do it when you arrive at the airport. It's very easy. When you check in at the ticketing counter, they print an infant boarding pass. If you fly Southwest, they ask to see a birth certificate. I don't think any other airlines ask for it, though.

It seems to vary by airline on the 5 round trips L's been on. Some airlines you can put the info in when you buy the tickets but at a minimum I would call before you fly. You'll also need a copy of her birth certificate (for some airlines -- others haven't cared).
