Just left the rabbis house with my Jewish divorce (Get) in hand! XH signed it at 6 and I received it at 7--in the Jewish religion it is given to the wife.
It was very symbolic. I had to hold my hands out, the scribe/rabbi who wrote it on parchment and in Hebrew put it in my hands, I closed my hands, raised them up, put it in my purse and walked 8 steps away. It was kind of cool to see the traditions behind this 3,000 year old practice.
Now I can remarry a Jew and sign another ketubah (Jewish marriage contract). Even better, I officially no longer have any ties to XH! Yay!
ETA: I got my civil divorce in September, this is my second divorce from XH!

Re: Got my Jewish divorce!
Yea! now you are free!
It was around this time last year that my divorce become final... I can't believe how fast time goes.
Congratulations!
This! Congrats MCC!
Congratulations!!
And I just have to say the whole tradition is awesome! I love hearing about/seeing traditions that other people have that are different from my own. Although it usually leaves me thinking, being a christian american, I'm pretty dang boring lol.
I was hoping for a re-circumcision but apparently that's not the norm...
There should be a loop-hole especially for XH's
They see us rollin'...they be hatin'.
I did ask if they could put him on a "no fly" list since this was his second marriage and I was his 3rd fiancee! The rabbis said they wished they could
My first husband refused my get. It got way ugly. He finally relented when I told him he would have to pay me $500 month until he did.
Best wishes on your new life!
