I'm in a small town and haven't been able to find decent beading thread here. The ones I've found are either too thick or unravel too much to thread the needles that fit my beads. I think I'll have to order online, but since I'm new to the craft, I don't know what brand/weight/color to get. Help please?
Re: Any beaders here?
I use Fireline from the fishing department at WalMart, ***'s, etc. It's thin, flexible, and very strong. 8 pound works with size 10 needles and goes through beads as small at 15s. Sometimes you can get it through a size 12 needle, but I don't use them -- they break too easily.
You can also use 6 pound, but it's harder to find in sporting goods departments. You usually have to go to a beading store for it.
The "smoke" Fireline has a tendency to smudge your hands, but doesn't show up on darker beads. I think you can remove some of the smudge by wiping it with a paper towel before you use it. Crystal doesn't smudge and works well for light beads.
The only caveat is that Fireline is a little stiff and doesn't drape as well as Nymo for fringes, swags, etc.
