LO has had 2 BMs a day since birth until yesterday. She hasnt gone since Friday. Should I be concerned? She isnt overly fussy or anything. I can call the pedi in the morning but thought I would ask here first before I become that annoying first time mom that calls for everything!
Re: newborns and pooping
Katie Talks About...
I think this is true for babies that are a bit older, I think a 1 week old should be pooping daily. I know dd would go several days with no poop but she was several months old by then. Of course the last 18 months are a blur to me so ksun could be right and it might be nothing to worry about
no harm in calling the ped though!
probably fine. I think my pedi told me not to expect regular poops until 1 year. You can do very gentle rectal stim with a rectal thermometer if you want but should be fine. Her belly will feel hard if she is constipated.
ETA: I am still a fan of calling the pedi to ask questions though. That is what they are there for and as she is your first baby, you get a hall pass on asking a lot of questions.

I remember reading that BF babies can sometimes go for days, because breast milk can be so easily and almost completely absorbed.
If she is tooting, content, and her tummy is soft I wouldn't be too worried.

BF babies can space out their BM's longer, but at just two weeks old I would wonder a few things. Is she having regular pee diapers? Is she fussier than normal? How does her tummy feel? Try the thermometer trick it always worked for us.
Also how is YOUR water and food intake? Are you drinking plenty of water? I mean like 80oz+? Are you eating regularly or snacking a lot? You have to make sure you are getting the nutrition and water you need in order to produce what baby needs.
Hope things are going okay otherwise! She's just SO cute!!
If she's EBF, then she's probably fine, especially if she's not showing any discomfort - breastfed babies can just go longer without pooping. I'd be concerned if she wasn't peeing at least five or six times a day, though. But call your pedi if you're worried; that's what they're there for.
Also, we were advised against rectal stimulation - babies don't come out knowing how to poop, and stimulating them can teach them to rely on the stim instead of learning how to have a bowel movement on their own. But if your pedi suggests it, well... I'm not a doctor.
We've been using infant massage to help Mr. E work through his gas and grunting.

This. If she's peeing and seems comfortable, she's fine. I honestly don't remember L's pooping schedule but I know she sometimes went a few days without pooping.
Thanks everyone
We ended up doing the rectal stim and she passed a really hard poop pretty much right away. Then this morning she had the messiest diaper EVER.
We have an appt on Wednesday so I will probably bring it up then and see what they recommend
