My Latest Plan...I'm always scheming

Repatriation - September 2013. (Flight home last day of August) That's 20 months from now, PLENTY of time to keep saving and see where life takes us in the meantime. I'm sure the time will really fly.

I've decided to not have a baby until we get home, which will still let me keep my "baby before 30" deadline. I just turned 27, so by then I will be almost 29. We could start trying a few months before we go home, but it would be nice to have some time in our house before the baby comes too. We'll see how things go.

Now if only I can get DH on board...sigh. Please send me some "DH on board with the plan" vibes bc we're going to discuss tonight!

We're headed to the Maldives on Christmas Eve!

  • Sounds good!  My only advice is to take the deadlines out of your life.  A "baby by 30" in nice in theory but life doesn't always go according to plan.  I don't know if this is some true deadline or in jest, but by keeping your options open in life, you'll have less disappointment and greater happiness down the road.

Regardless, good luck getting your H on board and planning for coming back to the US!

  • Yeah, be careful of the deadlines - I've had friends who have gotten married to just have babies by 30...a few are divorced and a few can't have children (either due to themselves or their husbands)...strict deadlines have led to a lot of heartache.  Having hopes on the other hand - those are great...I had a hope that I would someday work overseas and now here I am.  I had a hope that I might one day get married and have a child, but at my age that might not happen - there are just too many variables that  you can't control.

But anyway - on a more positive note - best of luck for your future & with sticking around Europe as it sounds like you are enjoying your life here!

  • Thanks Ladies - it's a pretty loose deadline. I know it is totally reasonable to have kids after 30, but DH and I have talked about this before. It's just something we are shooting for, although as we get closer to 30 we might rethink it. Sometimes we're just having too much fun to imagine a baby in our life. But at least I definitely know we both want kids, so I am sure it will happen at just the right time!

  • Good luck with all the decisions!

Perhaps wait till you've got home from babysitting the 2mth old before starting that chat with your DH tonight? He might feel overly pressurised by it all and think that you set up the babysitting just to start the conversation - might be less willing to babysit in the future with you if he thinks that everytime you babysit there will be a convo about starting a family.

  • I like your "plan".  Its always good to have an outline of what you want and where you wanna be and when.

Oh, you are so young.  To be 27 again :)  But don't stress over a baby by 30. I had mine at 33 and its fine.  I don't want more than one though.

  • You are 27 and have been married 10 years!!  Holy Crap!

I agree with the other ladies with the deadlines.  Enjoy your time here and see what comes.

Haha! No, we are counting down to being TOGETHER 10 years - but the tickers don't quite express it correctly. While I probably would have gotten married at 17, I doubt our parents would have let us! Wink
