vent update

Friday night was terrible, but yesterday and today have been really good.  DH's birthday was today.  We celebrated yesterday since he is working tonight.  We had a nice dinner out and then went out for lunch today.  He hasn't brought up what happened, so no apology which really is strange.  He usually will apologize when he feels he's done wrong, but the fact that he hasn't treated me coldly means he's not still mad at me.

Re: vent update

  • I'm glad things have been going better. I'm sorry he hasn't apologized to you, sounds like he knows he was wrong and is embarassed or Ashamed.

  • I still think this needs to be dealt with and talked about.  Sorry you're having to go through it.

  • I completely understand why you think it should be talked about.  There is lots of background to go with this issue.  A quick summary is that DH had a stepmother when he was a teenager and she gave his dad an ultimatum - either he had to leave or she was leaving.  His dad was given the choice of his wife and their child together or kicking out his 17 year old son.  DH left and went to his mom's.  A few months later, his mom's partner gave the same ultimatum.  So at 17, he was on his own.  The only reason he graduated HS was because his best friend's parents let him stay with them on the condition that he return to school.

He has a lot of issues because of this and we've had lots of fights because he was quick to interpret anything I did as something that might cause his son to feel the way he felt at that age.  Well really, he was afraid of his son looking at him the way he looked at his dad.  I thought we had come a long way and we were past it, but Friday night it creeped back in.  I do think he was embarrassed by the way he acted.  He may apologize at some point.  I'm not going to demand it.
