FML- I feel like we need to quarantine the house (warning: gross)

I found tapeworms on our female cat last night. Seriously gross. Almost threw up. Fine though, picking up meds for both cats at the vet shortly. Well...when the foster pup got off his dog bed to go out this morning, there were a bunch of dead worms on his bed. Ughhhh!!!

It's a complete coincidence since there's no way they could have caught them from each other (and they both definitely have them) in this time period and with almost no interaction so basically, I have the worst luck ever. My cat must have gotten them when she got out a while back and the pup already had them. DH and I are both totally grossed out and feel all itchy just thinking about it.

Other than that, fostering is going well. Dogs are way more work than cats, but I knew that. We're still learning his routine and how to read him. He's really sweet though and follows me everywhere.

  • Ugh, that really sucks. Crappy thing to have to deal with before Christmas.

We had to deal with a worm thing right after we got the second dog where both dogs got it. Not tapeworms, but some other kind. It was so disgusting that I won't even describe it (way worse than finding it ON them...) and they kept catching it from each other or outside or something. It was absolutely awful and I feel your pain.

Is the dog housebroken? Glad things are going well! :)

  • Ha. Thanks LB. I'm just glad the downstairs is all tile and wood laminate. I think I might die if I had all carpet and thought there were dead worms in it. Ick!

I feel really bad about our cat though. She had her vaccinations about a month ago and I was supposed to bring a stool sample but kept forgetting so she's probably had them for a while if we're seeing the worms now. She'd been acting kind of strange (very vocal, just different) but we weren't worried because she was still active and eating and stuff. Now she has a saggier belly than normal and doesn't seem to be eating much. I feel like a bad cat mom.

The dog is housebroken. We had two "incidents" where we found pee on the tile (DH found it once by stepping in it, LOL) and both times we were in the near vicinity but didn't see it happen. We thought maybe it was one of the cats being pissy but cat pee is pretty distinctive. We're pretty sure it was the dog but we're not quite sure why it happened. He's drinking a lot of water and peeing a lot so even though he'd been out not that long before each incident, we think maybe he just wasn't sure how to tell us he needed to go out. He literally follows me everywhere and just stares at me so it's hard for me to tell when he has to go out versus when he just wants attention. We're still learning. I'm not too worried about the two incidents though. It's a new environment and he's adjusting too. Overall he's very well behaved.

  • Yuck for tapeworms. Not fun!

I'm so happy that the fostering is going well so far!
