Gift for a Jewish co-worker?
I have a co-worker, who is socially awkward to say the least. He is always saying somewhat inappropriate things. Not sexually inappropriate, just inappropriate in any normal social, professional setting. He is Jewish and says a lot of things about how Christmas is stupid and is silly that people spend all this time stressing over the holidays, and he's glad he doesn't get involved in all that madness, etc. Fine, I'm agnostic and celebrate the holidays from a non-religious standpoint and I do agree with some of what he says but he says it in a way that is just weird and not conducive to a discussion, just more I'm right and everyone else is stupid, KWIM?
Anyway, he had just started as a temp last holiday so I didn't get him a gift, like I normally get the others in our small department of 4 people. Now that he's full-time, I feel it would only be fair if I give him something. Should I not give him something, since he's so vocal about ignoring Christmas and all that? I'm talking about, like, a $10 box of Godiva chocolates, so nothing super fancy or "Christmas-y" like an ornament. I usually give everyone the same gift. Thanks.
