Hungary itinerary suggestions?
My boyfriend is flying here for Easter, and we're thinking of flying to Hungary for a week (arriving in Budapest early evening on Wed 4 Apr and leaving afternoon Wed 11 Apr). Before I commit to those dates/times, I'm trying to get an idea of what our itinerary might look like.
What would you suggest in terms of an itinerary? How long should we stay in Budapest, and on which days of the week? We'd also like to explore some of the Tokaj wine trail.

I only went to Budapest so I'm not helpful, but I think you could see what you need in 2 full days.
You can't go wrong with Rick Steves!
We spent three nights in Budapest which was enough time for us. We also took the train to Eger and spent two nights there. It was a fun, smaller town, but two nights was plenty.

I love Budapest and spent a whole week there once without getting bored. But there are lots of cool things to see outside as well. I second taking the train to Eger. I just did it as a day trip and that worked out well for me. I also had some friends take me to Lake Balaton. And we took a day trip that stopped in a town called Kecskemet that had some beautiful architecture and we visited the Hungarian Puszta.
In Budapest check out the palace on the hill on the Buda side, the parliament buildings on the Pest side, the shopping in Pest. Have some lovely pastry at Cafe Gerbeaud. And go swimming in one of the baths. We went to the hotel Gellert for that. The indoor market is also nice as well as taking the metro to the park that has the Vajdahunjad castle.
