Choosing a Counselor/Therapist

I'm in the process determining if we should separate. After 6 years together and 3 years of marriage, I'm really doubting our ability to make things work. As part of that I'm looking to start counseling to help me with these decisions. I really need to find a counselor or therapist, but really have no idea on how to go about it. Any advice on choosing the right person to work with? Thanks.

Re: Choosing a Counselor/Therapist

  • well I looked up my insurance plan doctors online to find ones my insurance covered. Then I googled them. Tried to find reviews, websites, etc. Then found a few I thought sounded good. Then called up there offices.  Told them a little about what I wanted and if they could help. Then set up and appointment to see if we fit. You can always shop around and visit a few.
  • I've found a few selections and began calling, but few of them have any reviews. :( I'm note real sure how to go about evaluating them and decided who is going to be best for me.
  • I also started with my insurance company, and just randomly chose one close to my house.  I'm lucky, I found someone I like on my first try.  Definitely don't feel like you're stuck with someone if it's not a good fit.
The day I left was just my beginning.
