make recommendations for Christmas day relaxed meal

I think we are going to invite my parents over in the afternoon for a mellow Christmas dinner/opening presents thing.  I don't really think I want to do a seated meal, but I also don't want to just serve apps either.  I want something that feels "special" but won't require DH or I to be in the kitchen too much either.

It might be more of a "grazing" meal.

  • Homemade lasagna, chicken pot pie, a chicken roasted up with potatoes, baked shrimp scampi and/or crab cakes

  • My mom has done honey baked ham (or Heavenly Ham or whatever) for this and we've had ham sandwiches.

Yum - good idea!  I made lasagna for the first time a few weeks ago and it was delicious!

  • We usually do something like lasagna or enchiladas since no one feels like cooking on Christmas day.
  • Ditto the ham and some cold sides.  It is good for grazing and for when you have people in and out throughout the day.

  • Growing up, we almost always had lasagna for Christmas dinner.  That would be good with an antipasto platter.
  • We always do lasagna for my family on Christmas eve.... it's a great, yummy, easy meal.

  • I like the idea of a baked ham with mini croissants or something, and then maybe something like cream of crab soup in the crock pot.   When I think of a grazing meal I think of something that doesnt require utensils (such as the ham sandwiches, the soup obviously would haha.)
