I went to afternoon tea at the Ritz in Pentagon City yesterday with some friends and we were pretty disappointed. The food was just "eh" and the service was a little lacking - our waiter forgot to tell us what flavors (sandwiches, sweets) were served with the two more varied courses, someone's food or drink was always forgotten in any given course (and there were only 7 of us in a half-empty room). It's small, but while I understand having to reach over me to serve the person sitting on a banquette in the middle of four people, that means they should also be able to reach far enough across me to set my teapot on one of the plates in the middle of the table meant for that instead just plunking it down on my placemat.
If I get to plan a tea again, I'll go back to the Mayflower in a heartbeat before bothering to go back to that Ritz.
