Monday check-in

Where is everyone? Did you all take the week off?

Re: Monday check-in

  • I'm around today through Thursday. They are giving us a 4-day weekend for Christmas and New Years. I'm also taking off the 3 middle days next week.

I finished most of my Christmas shopping Saturday and wrapping yesterday. Still wait for my parents gifts to come in, which should be today, and I need one more thing for my brother. Then I'll wrap those plus DH's stocking stuffers later this week.

  • Hi!

We had a pretty busy weekend. Saturday we slept in and then DH wrapped gifts while I ran around town picking up the last few things we needed to finish up our Christmas shopping.  Still waiting for one or two things to arrive in the mail and have some gifts to bake, but we're done shopping at this point.

Sunday an NStar came to put in some Smart Energy equipment.  It's a two-year pilot program that helps you monitor how much energy you're using, how you can save, etc. and comes with some neat online tools, advanced thermostat controls, etc.  Then we visited with friends and their baby for an hour before heading out to a volleyball tournament last night.  It was a good day.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • What happened with the house, LadyE? Did you get your offer in?

My weekend was quiet. Saturday, we went out to lunch and hit up the grocery store. Yesterday, I wrapped presents, watched Love, Actually, read, and made a disastrous batch of brownie covered Oreos. They got a little burnt around the edges and then stuck to the pan, so they're barely edible.  I'm mostly annoyed about ruining an entire package of double stuff Oreos.  Sad

    That is so cool!

We bought a house this weekend! Well, we sign the P&S on Thursday and close next month, but we started the home buying process at least.

  • Congrats Lady E!

Rock, we're having something similar done in Feb. Can't wait, as I know this house is leaky in spots

Weekend was nice. DH ran a few errands Friday night and came home with a shiny new haircut. Combine that with his weight loss and he looks fantastic. Saturday we puttered around the house and got a few odds and ends done. Sunday was fabulous--I slept in for the first time in ages. Took DD to Mass (she was one of the better behaved kids in the cry room) and Christmas Pageant: so cute. She was SO tired, so I put her to bed early and now she's still asleep at almost noon.

Oh, and we finally put our tree up :)

    Thank you!

It's a restored late-1800s antique colonial. 5bed, 3 bath. Fenced in yard, woohoo! It has been totally updated with new bathrooms, new kitchen, vinyl siding, replacement windows, new electrical, etc. I'll post pictures once we're closer to moving.

  • Congrats, Lady E!!  I love old houses!

I attempted to Christmas shop on Saturday but came home with 3 new sweaters and an iPod Touch, all for me.  FAIL.

  • Congrats LadyE!! Can't wait to see pics!

DH cleaned the house Saturday while I took the baby to the mall quickly to run a few errands. After that, we hung out/ napped and then went to my parents for dinner.

Sunday, I did some baking and had friends over for the game.

  • Yay, LadyE!  That was fast.  Fingers crossed for a smooth process from here on out!

LOL, SCM!  Were you able to pick up any presents?  The few times I did shop in physical stores this season I definitely did, "One present for him, one present for me."  Haha!

  • Congrats, LadyE! That house sounds great- I can't wait to see pics!
  • I have all week off. DH is off Thu-Tues. Yay!

As you know my child doesn't nap, so he is having "quiet time" (which consists of banging on his wall) while I have 5 mins to myself. SO.

I have a friend who writes the most inappropriate stuff on FB. Like the other day she said, "My DD is such a stud. She has an ear infection but ran errands with me and went out to dinner with us without one tear!"

Um. Does she know, exactly, what a stud is?

And last night she put "City Festival of Lights is about to turn me into a cutter."

I know that is a new catchphrase and all but I find it really, really inappropriate. Especially coming from a mid-30s-y/o who should know the seriousness of that particular self destructive behavior (meaning she's not a 15 y/o who may  not really know what this means).

This is why I need to stick to online Christmas shopping, lol.

Haha, oh no! I kind of did this at Kohls but did come out with one of the gifts I was looking for and a sweater for myself. I didn't like any of the ornaments they had left (was looking for two) and didn't find anything for my brother either.

I got a good deal on the sweater though, which is how I justified it to DH (even though he doesn't care when I buy myself stuff because I almost always bring my lunch and rarely get anything for myself and when I do it's clothes). It was $60 originally, 50% off, then I had a 30% off coupon. Final total was $21. It's a sweater you wear over another shirt so I can wear it pregnant or not. Smile

::drool:: I love old colonials. I drive through the back roads of Concord frequently to avoid Rt.2 traffic and just oogle all those old houses. They are gorgeous. I'm looking forward to seeing pics!

I love old houses, too! DH really really wanted new construction, but since this house has insulation and looks new inside, it was a perfect compromise. But it was updated well, which I love, soeven things like the bathroom vanities are brand new but in the style of a antique house, KWIM? And it has high ceilings and hardwood floors, so you can't beat that.
  • This weekend was busy. Saturday I had two concerts to conduct and Sunday we headed into the amazing studios at WGBH to do a recording session for six hours. Today when I got home from work I walked right over to Copley and tried to get some shopping done. I was very proud of my self restraint... There is a shirt at Ted Baker that I have wanted really badly for a few months and now it's $100.00 off... I can't believe I walked out there with only a present for SO (and no, it wasn't the shirt I wanted for myself...)

Tomorrow I have a meeting with the dance studio I'm going to be working with in January. I'm co-teaching an early childhood music and movement class. Very excited!

I'm hoping to get a little more shopping done Wednesday.

  • Congrats Lady E!

DH is off the end of the week, and I am super excited.  We are staying home for Christmas so I still have to go grocery shopping for that.  It should be easy now that I can leave DD with DH while I go.  We are also going to go to the outlets!

The bolded sounds very cool, Ginger.  Are you going to be on TV???

You are a better person than SCM or I, or at least one with far more self-restraint while "Christmas shopping."

I don't know how you find time to teach another class!  You always sound so jam-packed already (and no, ladies, it is not ironic that I'm saying that :)).

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

Rock... I think it does sound a bit ironic that you are talking about a busy schedule. ; ) This class is right across the street from my condo, and it's going to be on Saturday morning... hey... I'm not currently doing anything on Saturday mornings.... why not teach a class... : )

Back Bay Ringers was at WGBH to begin recording our third CD, a new holiday CD. We worked with one of the sound engineers that works for WGBH who is totally amazing.

The shopping restraint was not reflective of my typical shopping habits. Angel

    Angel right back at ya!

And good for you about the class.  I am way too lazy to do anything on Saturday mornings besides sleep in!
