My mom is cooking, and wanted to do a slightly Italian theme. She wanted to make veal, but I'm not so cool with eating veal (even though I do eat meat) and fortunately it was $25/lb and she would have had to special order it, so she changed her mind. I think we have 8 people. Anyway, here's what we have so far:
Standing rib roast
Spaghetti with homemade sauce and meatballs
Roasted carrots and asparagus
Homemade rolls
Salad
Pumpkin cheesecake
Chocolate peppermint cake (which will be leftover from Christmas Eve but will still be good)
I'm making the rolls and desserts the day before and will make the veggies when the roast comes out of the oven. My mom is doing the spaghetti and roast. My sister will sit around making snarky comments and not helping.
Should I make potatoes too? I was going to do PW sweet potatoes but I don't think that will go with the menu at all. Should I do regular mashed potatoes or not since we have the pasta? Any other suggestions?

Re: Christmas dinner menu. Do we need anything else?
I think this is plenty!
The only other thing you might want (but don't need) is a simple appetizer. BUT you don't need it.

Oh yeah, my other idea was burgundy mushrooms. I've never had them, but they sound good. Here's the recipe:

I think I'd rather have mashed potatoes too, but my mom is set on spaghetti. I don't think she likes mashed potatoes, but everyone else does. Maybe I should make a batch of garlic mashed potatoes and bring them along.
