Flying with toddler/car seat
We've been flying with DD since she was 6 weeks old but she has always been a lap child. Now that she's 2, she'll have her own seat when we fly later this week so I was planning to bring her car seat for the plane. I was just looking at Southwest's website and it says the seat needs to be no wider than 16 inches. Hers is 18.5 (Britax Marathon). Has anyone else flown with a Marathon or Roundabout? Do I seriously have to buy a different car seat for the airplane??

I usually check the seat (either gatecheck or bag check). You can buy or rent a CARES harness if you want or just use the lap belt. Or buy a new carseat but that seems kind of silly.
DD -- 5YO
DS -- 3YO
Carseats usually have a tag if they are 'airline approved', that is all southwest ever looked at on DS's carseat. Check to see if yours has one. Heck NO I wouldn't purchase a different carseat for the airplane.
ETA: I LOVED flying w/ DS in his carseat. He was familiar with it and had no problem napping, since he did that in the car all the time.

We took our Roundabout on the plane on SW and no one questioned the seat at all as far as width. They just have you put the carseat in a window seat. I don't imagine the Marathon is much bigger than the roundabout.
And I agree with Huskerlisa - flying with their familiar carseat is so much easier!

Just ordered a CARES harness on amazon - thanks, Pesky!
I agree that she might do better in her familiar car seat but we have so much stuff to haul already that I don't know how we would carry her seat, too. Hopefully the harness and some good old fashioned bribes will keep her seated for the 2 hour flight. We'll find out on Thursday
