DS got his first college acceptance letter this afternoon to Tulane! We won't find about scholarship money for a few weeks though.
He won't hear anything from his other two choices until next year though so it will be a long wait. NYU is still his top choice but USC in L.A. has his screenwriting degree.
Decisions, decisions but at least we know we have one college we can go to and that is a relief!
Re: Proud Momma Here
Gah, and here I thought this was because he got into NYU!
Tulane is just as awesome (arguably more awesome) academically, though. Congrats to him!
Did he do early decision for NYU? I got my acceptance letter mid-December (4 days after getting dumped - it was much needed!!).
ETA: I say 'gah' because I was just wondering the other day when he'd find out.
No he didn't do early decision to NYU (I cried for 2 days when he decided against it) because he wanted to see what USC would offer as well. That popped up after visiting with the USC college rep and he heard how good their screenwriting program was. So he is doing regular decision to both NYU and USC and see what he gets financially from them as well as Tulane.
He got nervous about early decision and having to make a decision in December. So this gives him more time to think and more time for mom to go nuts!
Tulane has an early action application which is non-binding. So we took advantage of that and we won't have to give them a decision until May 1st.
congrats! I remember getting my first college acceptance letter... it wasnt a school I really wanted to go to but it was nice knowing "OK I *am* going to college!"
GL with the others!!!
Well if he does go into screenwriting, he'll have to let me know (through you) how to pitch a sitcom*.
I just looked at the website to find out when he'll hear: April 1. That is so long! I was so glad to know where I was going while my classmates were still applying. Such a relief. But your son is probably taking the wiser (if not more nerve-wracking) approach.
Also, random tidbit - the one guy from my high school who went to Tulane came out while there. I'm not sure if he's out in our hometown, but we have a mutual close friend who told me. He's super cute, too, and smart. So, where there's one, there will surely be more. (Hey, dating and socializing is a part of college, too!)
*My friend (who wrote the play I produced) wrote a one-act that she's thinking of expanding. It would work best as a television series, but, while we both know about theatre and know the basics wrt film, she and I are both a little clueless about tv.
I'm still trying to get my head around the screenwriting since up until a year ago he had wanted to be a lawyer his whole life. But if he figures it out I'll definitely tell him to help you!
N.O. and Tulane won't be a problem with being gay and I do think he will have more opportunities for boyfriends in college than he has had in high school.
One thing about NY though there were cute gay guys at every store we hit shopping this past summer! What a selling point! I am sure L.A. will have plenty as well!
Aww, that is WONDERFUL news! I hope more and more good news keeps trickling in for him.
Sigh, I remember how exciting it was to see those packets and letters in the mail
Haha, well, he can be a screenwriter and then go on to be an entertainment lawyer!
Or he can be like my dad and become a lawyer who writes screenplays (though hopefully he'd be able to sell his....).
Speaking of cute gay guys in LA, I have another guy friend (whom I've known since kindergarten and done many many shows with) who came out after high school and is living out in LA now. He's super cute and a really good dancer (I randomly ran into him at a club in Indy a year or two a go). He's not as smart as the guy who went to Tulane, though.
