I need to *** about medical bills, yet again

Just off the phone with the hospital because we keep getting huge medical bills from LO's birth, which I don't understand since we reached our OOP max with my accident back in March.

The hospital confirmed that my account shows we have reached the OOP max. However, all the medical bills are under the baby's name. WTF? So yeah, apparently my baby owes the hospital a couple grand for his birth.

Oh, and epidurals are considered elective services and are completely uncovered.

Re: I need to *** about medical bills, yet again

  • yeah, the bills in the name of the kid were always a bit of a shocker for us.

  • Yeah, I had a $4,500 OOP max but then we had another $1k or so for DS after he was born.  Basically, they counted everything as me until he was born and then he had a lot of his own bills.

My current insurance frustration is the $2k we were charged for DS to go about a mile in an ambulance between hospitals.  I even asked the OR doc if I could drive him and they wouldnt let me but apparently, this was an elective ambulance ride!?!

  • Under Colorado law baby should be billed to moms insurance and covered as if they are mom for the first 30 days of life. Contact the department of regulatory agencies and thy will help you figure out what to do. As far as the epidural, can you get the hospital/doctor to change the coding or have the doctor deem it medically necessary? We are still dealing with insurance issues from DDs birth. Hope you get it all figured out soon rather than later.
