How to put this on my resume???
I had a solid great resume until Mar 2011. This was when I was terminated because the company was having probs and "needed to make a change". I can still get a reference from them. The reason I have not worked is the lack of positions in my area. It is a higher position within my field. I could have taken a lower position but wouldn't have stayed for long so I didn't take them.
I don't know what to put on my resume since March and it looks really bad with such a huge gap. Here is what I've done since March...
- planned our wedding (big event)
- spent alot of time with my husband's father and family since he (father) was in the hospital for 4 months and then passed away
- travelled alot (week in FL, 3 week road trip, week in TX, week in Jamaica, 3 weeks in Fiji (9 weeks total))
- helped out a company I used to work for with several projects
- continued to volunteer as a chairperson with the local industry association and took on more responsibilities
- worked with my husband to grow his business and did small projects for him
So now I don't know how to explain that I haven't been just sitting around and have stayed sharp on my skills. TIA!

Being unemployed since March isn't a huge gap (in my opinion) The bold is the only things I believe you should include on your resume somehow.

If you were paid by the company or your DH's business, I'd include those as jobs on your resume
And I wouldn't turn down a lower position if you really need a job. There's always a possibility they bring you in higher, or move you up quickly.

I am living off of savings right now so I would rather not take the lower position unless I really really really need to. There is a significant difference in responsibilities and frustration level b/w the 2 positions.
Should I list the things I did (work) under one title or list them as short term assignments? I am concerned it will look like I had alot of jobs if I list them seperately.
Maybe someone else can help you better. I tend to be visual and would have to see the layout. I'd be willing to look at it if you would like - that is completely up to you. I also have had a lot of jobs and at times worked more than one job at a time. Unless I am asked for all jobs within the last ten years I only put the ones that have skills that transfer to the job I am applying to. Unless the gap is huge.
What style resume have you prepared? Maybe you want to try a different format?
