iPad - talk me into or out of

Dh has offered to get me one for Christmas but because of the cost, I am having trouble justifying it. (I still feel guilty about the layoff and just don't feel much like I deserve much if that makes sense).

I am surre I would love it as I love my iPhone and it would be so much nicer to be able to handle work emails and stuff on the days I work from home rather than using the regular computer. And it would be much easier to lug around for work rather than the giant laptop I inherited from dh when my old computer died.  And I think I would just generally have fun with it and I would be so much easier to see ten the little iPhone screen. But I still can't seem to say yes.

So, if you have thoughts, talk me into or out of it please.

Re: iPad - talk me into or out of

  • I don't use mine as much now that I have an iPhone but I do read books on it. V uses it the most. I prefer playing Angry Birds on it :)

I would definitely get one with 3G because otherwise it's the same as a laptop and you need to have WiFi to use it.

V also watches a lot of movies/shows on it. It's good for that on a road trip.

  • I can't seem to get on the iPad train myself.  DH has a droid, and I've played with several iPads and iPhones, but the touch screen and fingerprints drive me nuts.  I have to clean DH's phone every time I want to use it.

I did, however, get a netbook on black Friday and I have been very happy with it.

  • I waSn't super thrilled when DH got me one, but I love it!  I mostly use it to surf the web and watch Netflix.  Heck I'm using it right now!  It's easier to use than a phone or computer while nursing...

  • I love my iPad. DH got me one in May to replace an old MacBook that was enormous. It's seriously the best. I use it to read books, surf the web, emails, and the kids use it when we're on long car trips for movies. It fits in my purse easily, and is pretty darn durable. I'd let him get it for you!

  • I have one, it was a gift (for ten years of service at my job, I didn't ask for it), and honestly, the cost probably would have kept me from ever buying one.  I don't use it all the time, but it's really nice to have when I travel, personally I'd prefer to have the 3G so it would be easier to get online - it's not that much more, and it would make it much easier to use.  If you want to use in lieu of a laptop, I think that's a great idea - but again, get the 3G.
  • I love my iPad.  I mainly like it for traveling.  It's so much easier than lugging around a laptop, especially considering that DH and I never check any baggage anymore.

  • iPad 3 comes out in spring.  Just sayin'....

  • I love mine and am happy I didn't get the 3G as I almost never use it away from home.  I would wait till spring, see how you feel about it then, and the 3 will be out.

I know. I've done a lot of looking into this and I'm just not sure it's completely worth waiting. Some commentators think it might be late spring or later and that it could possibly be even pricier. It seems like the biggest change is with a faster processor and better display, which while nice, I'm not sure are absolutely necessary.

My birthday isnt until July, so that would likely be the next time I could get it as I don't think I could justify the purchase without an ocassion.

  • Hubby and I share one and it works out perfect that way.

As others said, it is great for traveling.  I always hated lugging my laptop around and I can just throw the ipad in my purse.

We both agreed we would never each own one.  We have never needed it at the same time.  But it is nice having one around!

  • DH & I both have iPad 1s. I love mine - I use it a ton, and DD uses it all the time. I read on it, play Words with Friends, surf, check email, do anything I'd do on a regular laptop. DD has an entire page of her apps and knows how to get to them and how to open them. She's starting to recognize letters and I totally credit the ABC apps she plays with. I love the portability of it (we only have the wifi versions, but so many places have wifi now that it hasn't been an issue) and pretty much always have it with me. If either one of us ever finds a freakin' job, I'd love to upgrade to the 3 this summer, but we'll see if that ever happens. I'd get one!

  • Target just had a deal that you get a 40 dollar plus gift card when you buy one. We bought the cheapest one and with that and the Target 5% off, we justified the price a bit more. I don't get it till Christmas though. I can't wait. He wants to wait till spring for the new one.
